WOW! This year truly sucks in every aspect so far... Went down to 86 last night with two of my friends for two hours....... and....... NOTHING. Besides us three there were two other fellas down there and over the corse of my stay five people caught three squid, besides us there were only two otheres there. Everyone seems to be saying its heating up, if it is not at pier 86. Where?

It has been raining a lot, so it could have to do with the sediment in the water. Heard the squid like the water clear.



It's been a bad year though in general.

Alright well believe it or not Im thinking of going from Bothell Mill Creek to Bremerton in search of these buggers. Never ever had to go this far to do this before does anyone know what pier to go to down there or where I should go when I get off the bremerton ferry?

There are many places to squid fish in Kitsap County. Bremerton Ferry terminal is under a transition due to the construction of the new marina. We are hoping public acces is not restricted. That was a great place to squdi fish year round, 24 hours a day! Port Orchard has a few places. Brownsville has a large area. Kingston is also good. If people are catching only a few squid, I would bet many many more are around. For what ever reason (wrong jig color/type, depth, etc.), you are not catching them. They tend to school so a few usually means many squid! Make sure you change depth and method of jigging. You may also want to change the color of the squid jig and the number of squid jigs on your line. People who squid fish around here tend to be tight lipped. No reports may mean good squid fishing.



When we get good amounts of rain/runoff, stay away from creek/river inflows. This murks up the water. Our squid really like clear water. We have been receiving increased orders the last two months which tells me people are using the squid jigs! Just get out there and keep trying!



I am now off to clean some mussels and clams the wife and I got today. Man was it windy! Below freezing wind chills. Oved around to a few different locations in the North Hood Canal. A good 15 pounds of mussels/clams. Also shucked a few oysters! Yum Yum yum! Tomorrow going to fly fish for some searun cutthroat!

this is the absolute worst season! went out to 2 piers this weekend and no catches! I had the lights, jigs and any other thing you can think of and not even a nibble!!

I went to Redondo and Dash Pt. i freezed my butt off for couple of hours and now i'm pissed! hahahaha

I was out at Redondo saturday night for almost 4 hours and I only caught 1. Pretty sad. Around 10:45 a harbor seal showed up and decided to pack it up.



Ended up at downtown seattle next to the aquarium and the cops said the dock was closed for the night? Anybody know if that's the case? I've fished on that dock way past midnight.

Brownsville has always been good to me. I have fished there many times.

Sometimes there are a lot of people there. Question for you all: has any one

found squid at Seiku ? I have tried there several times with no luck. What time

of the year are they around there thanks diver

My uncle has a place there in Sekiu, I think he mentioned about finding them there during early summer. I'm betting if you took a boat out of there, with some lights overboard, you would find them. I think I'm going to give that a try this year.

Jon I live in Clallam Bay and have fished under the lights at the end jetty at Olsons Marina about 8 times over the years. Never tried from a boat though. Ive talked to the Olsons but they dont know to much about squid. Same with the fisheries people. If you get any more information please post or even email me.

Yes, I've fished there as well..... never saw or caught any either. My uncle said when he had seen them in, they were in large schools. Next time I talk to him, I'll try to remember to ask when he saw them. Neah Bay as well used to get them in well, but from what I heard, after they did the new marine, they really didn't see them anymore.



It's really not a "HOT" item for any of the local shops "Neah Bay, Sekiu, Port Angeles". I did have a short stay in Sequim bay at the park, I'm thinking it was about May or June, and there were some squid around there.

Hello everyone. New to the forum and was checking out the latest threads. My son (8) and I would like to get more involved in squid fishing locally and was looking for some decent places to start close to BI. (The wife says we can't live on a diet of red meat.) We tried Brownsville once last year with marginal results but that was probably timing.



Anyone have some success stories for a couple of newbies? I didn't see any reports recently.

It's definitely winding down for squid fishing now. Personally, I would recommend waiting till mid-june or July. I imagine your son would have more fun in warmer weather. The squid aren't as big, but they are around. Often can get them any time of day, but I hear better success 1st thing in the morning or late at night. VERY small jigs work the best, about 1" - 1.5" total length.

I live out of state, am new to squid fishing, and it's not convenient for me to travel to Washington every time I'd like to squidfish. Any tips for when's the best time to go squid fishing and in what areas? The last time I squidfished was towards the end of February 2008, where we went to the Les Davis Pier in Tacoma, and we had nothing! I don't think there was even any squid there at the time.

I would suggest July-August for the summer squid, I usually hear better reports for during the daylight hours fishing. VERY small jigs, pink seems to work the best.



October-December for the winter squid. Last couple of years it has not been very produtive on the East side of Puget Sound. The Bremerton/Brownsville/Port Orchard area have been the most productive. Orange and Pink seem to be the hot colors.

Hey guys, I've followed the post off and on over the past year to get a fill of what squid jigging is all about. I really like eating calamari and love fishing so I thought it might be a time passing after a day of fishing. I've bought some standard glow jigs and plenty of main tackle. I just need a little direction by way of where to fish? I live minutes from Brownsville but have not ever seen anyone jigging there. I also frequent Port Townsend, Port Angeles and Neah Bay. Any suggestions on times and place?

hey everyone.. I am completely new to squidding...picked up my license yesterday and a very jigs. I was told that this is the wrong season to get them.... but is it still possible to find them? I live in port orchard..a buddy and I went to waterman ridge in port orchard last night...no luck..saw some herring down there. been thinking about hitting up bremerton and brownsville. is there a certain line set up that works best for people? my buddy was rolling with one lure while I rigged up like four. maybe our jigs were too big for this season? they were the typical ones you get at wally world. thanks for any advice guys :-)
