I have just gone through and deleted some of the "arguing" etc comments. On all sides I think. I hope everyone had a chance to get their comments off their chest and now we can all move on.....

still catching here, had another decent night before the rain moved in, i said i was gonna stop squidding for the season but i can't seem to stop. maybe tuesday night when at midnight it will be fluke season.
saw someone last night catch a fluke (way short, 'out of season') on a squid jig.... he kept it. i had a hard time biting my tongue

I just registered on this site, which I have been reading for two years. Regarding homemade jigs, I have made my own since 1974, I was stationed on a ship in Newport and started using old government ballpoint pens. I found that spraying them with yellow or white paint was the most effective. I would run a swivel with some line through the pen up the middle and attach a small split shot sinker to it which I crimped. This would provide me with a quick way to attach my line and the small amount of weight seems to work very well. I would then attach/super glue some hooks around the bottom and wrap it with line, like you do a guide on a fishing pole, and cover the hooks with a little tape and spray it yellow or white. I have always liked light weighted jigs because they float a little like a wounded fish which makes for easy prey.
I was just up at GI last month, and I was using my homemade jigs. I seemed to catch more than most others fishing there. Quite a few people came up to me and asked to see my jig, I gladly showed everyone what I was using and explained what they had to do to make their own. I was only there for a few days but I had a great time. I plan to return again next year (our daughters live in New England). Hopefully I will see some of you then. Happy fishing!

finally gutted the ones that i caught saturday night and there were some that still had egg sacs in them...

did you freeze them or just keep them on ice?
i noticed a bunch with eggs still inside when i was cleaning mine the other night and again last night.
still lots of squid out there folks. go get 'em. i am officially done for the season now. it's fluke time kids....

They're still around...very picky though. Moved on to strictly bass...

Are there any squid around? There is a party boat going out on June 18th. I was wondering should I drive up from New York for some squid fishing. I was hoping to read some report here but didn't find any recent report. Any updates will help, thanks!

I was there last Saturday. there was only one other person squiding. We fished from the park wall and ran the generator. We saw some squid but no bites.

Went to Newport, RI yesterday, got to Newport GI around 10 pm saw couples of squider on the bridge. I was squiding by the basketball court with my generator and about 10:30ish caught about 10 squid mostly small ones. Moved to Jamestown; the weather changed for the worse. Even through it was raining, the wave in the ocean was violent there was still squids there. Caught about 20 squid at Jamestown before I quit dued to the rain and wind.
