Newport, Ri - 2009 Squid Season
Thanks to all for tips and information. Made my first squid fishing trip-caught 25 jigging off of Goat Island bridge 8-9:30PM this past Wednesday night. Would have been lost without everyone's help.

Also was good to know that there is relatively no etiquette, at least at this site. Had a number of issues with people jumping into my spot, pushing, etc. While in most parts of the world this would have caused a fist fight or someone to be thrown into the water, I knew from the postings that this was possible and kept from taking action.
do not repeat what you saw.

have fun fishing
Weather was crappy last night...not good for fishing...

Plan on going on the seven bs tonight....less crowded, same price...the boat leaves at 8:00 which is perfect timing to be fishing under the lights...hope i break 2 gallon buckets this week....managed 1 and 1/2 5 gallon buckets last week......

i heard the crew of the seven B's tosses those who break two 5 gallon buckets for the first time in the water at the dock. bring a towel
LOL! HAHA! I hope I am so lucky....I can swim pretty good..ha....

I probably just jinxed myself...hope the clouds disappear and the moon is a shinning tonight.... just being on the boat, with fellow squid folks is a joy in of itself....

I'm slamming them. 20 pounders, 30 pounders, and yesterday we got a 40. Not too mention all of the fish that are just legal. I hope this continues through July, but I don't think that it will. And the Tuna are here!!!
I haven't had any luck with stripers, the only spot I have boat access is mt hope bay, any suggestions (spot, bait, etc.)

Does anyone have a Squid update for Newport?? Maybe you should start a new topic for bass fishing
Anyone been catching squid lately at GI?

I went Saturday for an hour. Was waiting for the tide to come up, so I could go scup fishing. Caught one large squid for scup bait in that hour. There was only a handful of people there fishing. Some people was catching, one guy had about 7 caught when I left.

Caught about 10 scup only 4 keepers 11inch plus, one scup we caught was 13.5 inchs pretty nice. Also caught a 11 inch fluke threw that back also.

I havent...been under the weather...Anyhow, someone I usually go with has been doing pretty decent...past 3 outings close to 100 squid.

...homemade jigs. I havent seen em yet. But once Im better, I'll be back out.

Scup out in full force , scaring the squid momentarily, as well as skates & fluke...imo, once the blues are in thick (which shouldnt be too far away, if they arent already) I suspect the squid to thin out/move...

Does this guy drive like a blue GMC truck and wear a winter vest with salt and pepper hair? If so he was there saturday pretty much killing it with his homemade jig.

went last night to jamestown... squid are still around... huge ones too... i've been going a couple times a week and haven't had much luck compared to others... just to level the playing field i am posting some links to the jigs that have been nailing the squid like magic... i'm tired of squidding next to these guys and watching them catch like there's no tomorrow...

i did post up the links... wonder what happened to them... here are the pics hopefully they won't disappear...

the sites are www.squidjig.com and www.juicyjigs.com

like i said earlier... let's level the playing field with these "guys" who don't want to tell us where they're getting these jigs from... homemade ok... but if you're getting it somewhere and want to be an ass about it... now i'm letting the secret out... sucks that the season might be winding down, but hey there's always next year <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
