They just started this past weekend....$40... The boat leaves the dock at 8:00 till 1:00.... I believe they just started to do the trips because they could not start fluking yet....otherwise the boat does the sunset fluke trips during the weekend....They are sailing for squid, thurs., friday, sat. and sunday.....It was great! call a few of the fluke-heads I know to let them know..... Because of the light crowd, you could really swing the squid over the rail.....I guess I really got spoiled....we past by the FF and the crowd was pretty heavy....we were fishing in the same general area...the bite did not get going until the sun was really set, so leaving at 8:00 was not a factor.....It was non stop for 4+ hours...I can not wait to get out this weekend....and hope there is the light crowd again.....

I just wanted to let you all know.....I went yesterday <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='  ' /> no luck for me.
I caught 1 squid.....the lady next to me caught like 30?????
I got so frustrated and left......so I went fishing for scup and caught a lot....good size too, plus I caught some other fish too.
I have no idea what they are called but they are brown with a big head and make a barking noise when out of water and they have wings.....lol that's the best way I can describe them..........they make good soup.
I will try my luck again next time...but it seems to me the squid don't like me.

I was out Saturday night from about 10pm-1:30. A few bumps but didn't catch a single squid. Massive amounts of baitfish though. Saw one nice group of large sized squid swim by but fairly quiet all night. Some larger fish were munching on the baitfish as well, maybe scaring off the squid?

there are plenty of squid out there, regardless of your light set up. i use both my colemans or my genny depending on where i go. def no lawn chairs.

on a side note, there are still squid out there, picked up another 30 last night. def put in the hours but fresh squiddies on the table are sure yummy and bait in the freezer is a $ and time saver....

Besides trying different jigs (color, size, etc.) You might want to try a product that I discovered a few weeks ago. It is called
Pro-Cure Bait Fish Formula Super Gel I was squidding next to this guy a few weeks ago using the same size and color jigs. The only difference was that he was smearing this gel on his jigs and he was outcatching me 5 to 1. I just picked some up online and hope to give it a try this weekend. Snaildarter

I've thought about scents for squid...never got around to trying it.
You'd think it could only benefit imo...

Sounds like sea robin's. I hear they are good eating if you get they big enough.

Sea Robins are actually pretty good if you pan-fry the fillets. The belly strips also make excellent fluke bait.
In terms of the attractant to spread on the jigs, try Smelly Jelly in Bunker or Spearing. They both work pretty good, from what I've heard... You can buy it at a few tackle shops in Middletown/Newport.

I've used smelly jelly in the past on plugs for stripers...Mostly on rubber/plastics. Works great on sluggos...or is it just the sluggo, who knows...doesnt hurt to add it though...

Just got back from an all nighter at GI, came home with half a bucket. It was really slow picking since I was at the wall sitting between two generators. I picked up my light and move down the wall near the bridge and caught all of them there. Pretty big schools swimming by every 5 minutes but didn't want to take the jig. Then around 3:30am the squid started to get hungry and was attacking my jig 5 at a time. I didn't bring up 5 at a time, only manage one or none at a time. Around that time a big school of about 100 meds to large squids just floating around my light not really moving.
water was really calm the whole night. I think thats why squid wasn't really going after the jigs. I find that I do better when the water is kinda ruff and not a lot of lights around.
Earlier that night a big ray like the one poster earlier was swimming by. Couple of people manage to snag and hook it with 4 rods on the bridge. They tried to pick it up by the rock wall but all the lines snap. Also some guy fishing for striper on the bridge with 3 pretty big poles. He lost one of his pole over the bridge into the water. When something took hold of hit, maybe some big striper?
Well I'm freaking tired went there at 5pm after working a 10hr shift. I'm getting some sleep.
p.s. any one went of FF last night? and how did they do?

Thanks to all for tips and information. Made my first squid fishing trip-caught 25 jigging off of Goat Island bridge 8-9:30PM this past Wednesday night. Would have been lost without everyone's help.
Also was good to know that there is relatively no etiquette, at least at this site. Had a number of issues with people jumping into my spot, pushing, etc. While in most parts of the world this would have caused a fist fight or someone to be thrown into the water, I knew from the postings that this was possible and kept from taking action.

Too bad they didn't all fall in and get electrocuted by the ray....morons. Yeah let's mame the ###### out of it with trebles and then lose it. I wish I was there, damn I wish I was there.
