Newport, Ri - 2009 Squid Season
i am. not for much longer though.

the last couple times out i have been trying some different spots with no crowds. catching, but not in the numbers i usually fish.

i def have 2 or 3 more trips in me, top off the freezer on the dock for the summer/fall...
Good to hear ya still catching...

Speaking od crowds...I was at "that spot" this one guy...he was fishing right next

to me, which is fine, whatever...so he starts snagging like RIGHT next to me. I kindly

say, can you pls not do that right next to me, you're invading my space & you're

scaring the squid away...He says "Yea I'm trying to get the fish"...Then he throws his line

RIGHT OVER MINE, I friggin flipped out on him...he then moved.

Anyways, I think I might try another "quiet" spot myself next outing...

Next time cut his line and throw the ###### in. Idiots like that can even take that kinda hint. Its unreal how stupid/selfish some ppl are when it comes to fishing. Last time on the FF, some dipshit kept casting across everyones lines. Some people shouldn't have been born. LOL
Squid: The other other OTHER white meat
Hello all,

I had enough of people who use my generator light and try to snag the squid. So, my solution for these no respecting people is: I bring in some tangle tri-hook and throw it right on top of whoever that is and let them try to untangle it. Meanwhile, I use my other pole happily fishing :-) .... Give me respect then i give you respect.

Lol believe me fluke, came close to it. But didn't want to ruin the night over some

jerk and possibly cause the spot being shut down due to public disturbance/fighting.

Plus if I get arrested over fishing my wife said she's not gonna be so quick to bail me out...
i never got the whole snagging thing. that's no fun. that's not fishing. might as well just get a throw net. and if i ever see some one with a throw net near me it's so on!

nice, well not really nice, to see some others getting vocal about the lack of etiquette some people have. it really is getting out of control. some of you here have pm'd me about this previously.... now the question is how to fix the problem. i certainly am not going to stop doing my thing due to others lack of respect, manners or whatever you want to call it.

i wish people could just come by, say hi, and not be a jerk off all night.

Mr. Brian, if i got arrested while fishing, i am def not calling my wife first. my brother or one of my buddies get the call first.

i keep forgetting to use these, i said i would
hey kingsquid when they was snagging was it Saturday night near the ladder? If so I was about 10ft away and I heard you to tell that kid to go away lol. That night sucked since the only way of catching was snagging.

Sorry I don't have pictures of that 23inch only witness.

I went to GI again after work today 6pm-8pm, only caught 5. I got my first squid on the first cast and then it went dry till 7:30. I guess the tide was starting to go down and things was picking up a little bit. Saw a son and father by the ladder catching each cast. Using no sinker with a 1.5 size jig on the bottom like me. I really think the squids don't bit when the tide is at its' peak, only when it starts to go down. That's how I been catching most of my squid. I got a couple of trips left this weekend then I'm done. I really think the squids are going to be gone by next week.

Whats wrong with snagging squid if they are not biting its a challange, and why not try a throw net, most people there are catching squid for bait or food, you said its no fun, its not like it takes a talent to catch squid or they put up a fight maybe you should catch a release , this is a squid website you are telling the world how great GI is and them you complain about the crowds.why doesnt everyone just go back to a rope and a coleman lantern instead of these noisy generators and massive light set ups, and lawn chairs, maybe thats why there is less squid now.
I have nothing against snagging but the way people are so ignorant while doing it. Throwing over other people lines or try to move in on your spot when your all tied up.
I heard the squid were biting in the morning, any confirmations? (anyone)

usergopats,

There's nothing wrong with snagging squid or throwing net, as long as you use your own light and don't throw across my fishing line. What do you think if you try to fish and I snag right into your line? maybe you can let it go for the first time, but what is your limit number?

I went last night and besides the few people catching it was slow for the rest of us. There were not alot of people at GI. Lots of sqiud bumping the jigs but not taking. Since this was my 8th time out this year with less than 50 squid caught I got bored and started throwing my net. I was kind enought to let others use my generator light to jig. I threw my net off to the side of my light about ten feet away from my light.

I am deifinatley not an expert net thrower. It is not as easy as it looks and is a bit of work. I would much rather catch them jigging. Anyways the net did not scare the sqiud. They would scatter and return to the light quickly. I ended up with about 70 after 1 1/2 hours. If I did not net we would have left wtih 7 squid.

I could have filled a bucket but was too damn tired of throwing. I was getting sloppy and decided to call it a night around 11:00 am.

Saw only one squid net member Alan.

You are the man, I will be there Saturday night.
I went out on the seven b's V which is in Gaillee, Rhode Island this past weekend. Filled my 5 gallon bucket and it was the first time I fished for squid. Loved the boat and since that boat just started to squid fish, the word has not gotten out yet, so I had room to swing my squid over the rail without worrying on hitting anyone. I suspect this coming weekend I will not be that lucky in having that type of space on board....
Arrested while fishing......that would be an interesting conversation at the breakfast table the next morning.

"morning hun......you know i love you right"

"don't talk to me asshole. how the hell did you manage to get arrested while fishing. Only you could be this stupid. Some example you set for the kids"

"love you honey" <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

whoa when did the Seven B's start doing squid trips? Its about time they took a page outta the FF book and did that.

What did they charge and what time did they sail til/leave the dock? If i was around, i'd give them a shot this weekend but i've got a new tractor being delivered in NY on saturday that I've gotta be there for.
