were you the guy sitting on the edge with the girl and using the generator? yeah there were ink spots at all...

5/6/09: 8p-11p, water temp 51-52f

I was out there tonight for about three hours, the bridge was shoulder to shoulder half way up on the Newport side and some on GI side. There were lots of people on the rock wall and they seem to be snagging some squid every so often, but not constant. I saw lots of squid pass right through my jig during the three hours, I tried a single pink yozuri jig and a two jig line, pink and white and no takers. Of the three hours I was there I finally got my first one of the season about 12inc long (body). They seem to be around, I don't know why they're not taking the jig? maybe me?

I won't be out there tomorrow, but definitely over the weekend, see ya out there.

Did anyone here go to GI on Monday night? If not you guys missed out! Missed out on the 60-70 pound Sting Ray the Asians were catching and cutting up. It was HUGE probably around 20+ yrs old, feel bad for the poor little thing.
hahaahaha you gota love that name "Generator_Mooch"

one of the guy jumped in and tied a rope on the sting ray so they can pull it up, and the worse part is when they were cutting it up he got the Head piece

Do you think it's a bad idea to go for squid fishing between 3 and 5? I might end up in newport some time this afternoon, and thinking about spending an hour or two squid fishing
Last night was very slow. Fished from about 2030-2200 next to the bridge and caught nada (saw 3 caught). I then moved down the wall a little bit till 2230 and caught one- a few people had more than that, but the most I saw was a half dozen.

The one I caught was a female- I think the larger females are starting to come in now, and once the males get here the run should start. Lets hope!
whats this about a 60lb stingray being caught???? Anyone have pics or more details?

Also I posted a new topic about fluke regs I know a lot of people in here use squid as bait for fluke so started its own topic RI just released the 09 regs

And I posted my reaction and notes about last nights Saltwater License meeting for anyone interested.

we flip flop between the 2 spots. the dem dock is hit or miss with the weather/wind. it tends to get too breezy and cold for some of the kids that squid with us sometimes.

i try to avoid the crowds at GI...

I wanted to throw my computer out the window after i read that. Seriously i'm so pissed off right now. I realize "its just a regulation" but rhodie just keeps screwing us more and more each year while the draggers get off scott free. Its total BS. (sorry i won't post about it in here anymore)

I will say, we're gonna need to catch some pretty god damn big squid to use whole if we're gonna catch 21" keepers. Christ, the average fish @21" will be 4lbs+ now. WTF???
