friends report:
Half quarter bucket of squid one night.. next night nothing.. quick question for you boaters catching squid..
if you guys r running a color fish finder.. what exactly do squid look like on the sonar screen? they look anything like a school of pogies?n if you have a snap shot that would be even more great ful =)
I've seen them on the finder last year, they look the same as if a thick school of sand eels is around, not the red center that you would get from pogies. The best way is to send a jig down and check

and for u that was there sat nite squidding. i was the 1 with the underwater light. trying it out for the 1st time. thiink it scare the squid away instead of attracting it. but i ill give it 1 more shot when the squid r there in great #'s. if that fails, it'll go into my bin for useless fishinng equipment which is taking up a bulk of my garage space. not the 1st wont be last is my motto. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> goodnite all and happy squidding

Squid could be caught in the day time and decent bite in the evening too. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> The water is cold so you can try to nab some skates, sea robins or cunners (choggies). Skates and sea robins come in good numbers to feast on squid eggs. Water is getting warmer as the tautog bite is hot! You can catch tautog in Tiverton/Portsmouth which isn't far away from Newport.

We fished Saturday night from like 8 - 12am, didn't catch any squid. We were in the boat by GI bridge and also tried the NPT bridge, no luck. I did get one hit, felt like a bass or a fluke, not sure, but I know it wasn't a squid! I guess we'll try again this weekend...
W are typically a very freindly crowd and very passioante about fishing in general, I hope you do not sterotype the users of this forum as a whole... As for my expreience I have never come across a rude fellow member...
And above...If that is your conclusion, I would still be weary fishing for those, I donot wish any problems for anyone... Also, I agree with the previous poster to end the Herring debate as this is a squid fishing community forum...
I will most likely be out tongiht, hope to see familar faces.
Squid fortune for all,

Tatonka,
Are you the fisherman we met last night with two huge powered lights?
Thank you so much for letting us fish around you, we are sorry we might be too close.
Hope to see again soon.

Hey mapk,
Yep, that would be me. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' /> Great meeting you guys last night. And no worries, always willing to share. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> Hope to see you out again.
I caught about 6 last night. All pretty big females, full of eggs. Didnt see anyone with more than about a dozen. Lots of bait in the water.
The squid just dont seem too hungry for my Yo-Zuris. Hopefully the bite will be better this upcoming week.
Cheers,

The fiosh house in NewBedford where I sellmy fish has not had any squid from trawlers yet. They report that the trawlwers are working but not catching.

In regards to the squid of this year, the asians were catching at a higher rate than last year but similair to the rate of the past years ( if that makes sense). I'll get some video this weekend it will aggravate you just to watch it.
Last word on the herring and it goes with anything taken form the water. If you can't positively ID the species as a keeper, legally, than let it go. That goes for everything shellfish, fish, shark, etc.
I am determined to catch the squid that are needed and will have triple digits next week!!!

Hello all,
Fished Gi for the first time on April 24th...with no luck,
and again on May 3rd...we arrived at 2am (caught a few). Had my eight year old son with me both times..He's the one that talked non-stop all morning!
The thing that struck me was the litter. There was none in April, but plenty two days ago.
Having Heinekin bottles and McDonalds wrappers (not to mention an endless stream of butts) float past while jigging was pissing me off!
Why people have to trash nice places is beyond me.
Just wanted to get that off of my chest.
Long Days and Pleasant Nights !
