yeah it's me... the one and only mino in town...
koolio u remember me rite ..(tho) i went to skool wit ya sis..squid hittin in sakonnet....
Hey Folks,

I meant to post something to this topic but posted it as a new one by mistake so here it is agian . . .Has anyone else been watching the water temps at the Newport NOAA station?

http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/ports/por...ort&port=nb

A few days ago the temps were climbing rapidly and steadily with just some minor fluctuations due to tides. I thought the water would be hitting 50°F very soon. Now, over the past couple of days the temp has actually dropped a bit. Does anyone know if the temp needs to hang around the 50° mark vs just hit that number for a short time? Also, with no major storms in the Newport area why woulod the temp drop when the air is warming up? I was trying to plan around it for my first trip but now I'm just gonna go no matter what.

Temperature changes are based largely on winds in conjunction with masses cold/warm water.

G.I.S.S. #011
Thinking of trying tonight. Will report....

As for Sakonnet, like Evil401, also had a friend report of some being caught. Typically, they show up there before they head up into the bay. I havent been down there this year, to much of a hike. I tend to stay on Aquidneck Island. maybe I'll see a familar face down there tonight. Soccerlife, good to hear a positve report for a change. Albeit, not the strong numbers as of yet....

Good luck all.

yea too far man c u on the bridge buddy
i know this is off topic, but does any one know if Mackerel runs by goat island bridge? i have caught few small bass on squid jig by accident just wondering if there's any other thing beside squid at Goat island.
what material would be best to use to make a reflective cap for the top of a lantern??
I used aluminum sheet metal. Started with a circle about 39", cut a 6" circle in center. polished it to a mirror finish, then cut out a pie piece, so I could pop rivit it to a shape of a lampshade. The center hole should be close to the top dia. of the lantern before you poprivit. I have some photos if your interested.

If you decide to live-line a squid for stripers off the causeway, you run the risk of tangling 500+ squidders when fighting that fish.

I wouldn't want to have that many people pissed at me... again..

I may or may not know from experience...

if i know i can get a trophy stripper, in that situation i would seriously consider having 500+ squidders being pissed at me...
I drove the new boat, Jenny Lee by there yesterday afternoon. ONly one guy on the bridge, no luck from either he or I.

Just a report.
