Does anyone have a guess when the squid will be in the Newport area? I have been squiding the for the last 2 years. Last years i was able to land a few, but i want to get out early this year and bring some newbies out. When should i crank the geny up and head out?

My prediction for this year's arrival of the elusive squid is May 11th.

I'm starting to hear rumors. I'd expect to see the earlier birds into Newport the next 1~2 weeks. Not quite the massive herd, though. Water is still too cold.

Went tonight, got skunked. Did see a guy early evening (daylight) with a couple 'small" ones. Not too much to get excited about. Still give it atleast 1~3 weeks. Water temp is still a huge factor. Did notice a abundice of small, one inch bait fish.
man oh, oh man, this wait is killing me. You could say, I'm just another OCD squid fisherman. Just cant wait.....
Good to meet the new fellow squid fishers tonight. Good luck to you all.
Cheers,
Tatonka
Oh yeah, good to se you out Alan, nice lights buddy.

FYI, I hooked into my 1st big stripper last sunday night. Had to be 35+ inches . Poped line when trying to lift out of water. I was on a bridge without a bridge net. Lesson learned. Also, nice to meet "snaildarter" in person at local bait shop, hope to hook up as the season progresses.

Keep it going. The table of guesses are for those who made a guess, right? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />
Tatonka...good to hear someone hooked up, albeit small...good sign. I dont know, this yr I'm extra excited. Probably because its been a looong winter & last yr's squidding was dismal to say the least.

Grown adults so excited about squid. I'm with each and everyone of you. I formed my own opinion based on the last three years of squidding. It seems we are all so exicited to get started that we miss some of the best squidding come the middle to the end of May. Suzy and I have had our best catches the first two weeks of May. I am saving my time for those two weeks. Buster Blue, Sofnx, Alan, Tatonka and Spawnie see you all soon. I purchased a 1200 watt gene torwards the end of the last season. Tough to lug arond but well worth it. We will be there 4/25 for the first time this year unless we read some promining posts. Hope to see some of you then.
