Favorite Squid Jigs
#1
Hello again!

What types of squid jigs does everyone prefer? - Yo-Zuri's, Snaggers, or homebrew? Any particular colors or techniques?

I'll post more when I've got the time.

Tight Lines!

Yo-zuri shrimp hunters is my choice of jig....well actually it's the squids choice where I catch them as they will "NOT"

take any other jig and we have tossed all sorts at the buggers and even had a mate using razor backs and a range of other jigs there at the same time...score was ru 12 mug..7......Dazza..zip/squat/bugger all/nothing.

ru 12 mug
make squid your friend...then bag them

I try so many different jigs. So far, Yo-Zuri is the best, expensive compare to others but worth the money.

Colors is all depend on the bites and the hours/day, just makes sure you get all of the colors and watch people around you.

I remembered one night, squid just bites on the green one, and I didn't bring it with me <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I mainly use Yamashita and Daiwa because they give good cost performance. I have a couple of Yo-zuris but they don't see the water much and a couple of cheapies to use as pilots in rocky places.

Yo-zuris & yamashitas are pretty much all I use...in all different shapes, sizes & colors...some days the zuris are catching more..other days its the shitas.

When out wide in the boat, seems the pink coloured 2.5 and even 3.0 prawn style work best for us...

In saying that, when they are thick, you can catch them on anything, i have caught them on soft plastics quite often "Nuclear Chicken" jerk shad, they love them!!!

Also caught them on a surface shark bait, both the last 2 methods just use a single fishing hook.

But when in those conditions, you are pulling out a squid via a proper squid jig every cast.

Often they will be at a certain water level, once down at that level.... BANG! everytime.

A trick i do when they are down deep, is to rig 2 squid jigs and a sinker on the bottom of my leader, then let it fall to the bottom, sometimes slowing the drop with your finger... They grab them on the way down everytime.

When fishing for them off a jetty, its a lot harder... colour and size of the jig are a lot more critical... i haven't the range of jigs to really tell whats best in that situation.
