Help! I Need Squid Tissue For My Dissertation Research!
#1
Hi all,

I am a Ph.D. student at Auburn University studying the "family tree" of molluscs. It is unclear how the different groups of molluscs (e.g., snails and slugs, bivalves, cephalopods [including squid], chitons, tusk shells, and others) are related to each other. To address this question, I am using a molecular approach that involves DNA sequencing. I am in desperate need of tissue from as many different species of squid as possible. They need to be collected live and the tissue must be cut into very small pieces and fixed in a special reagent (called RNAlater). If anyone on this board regularly catches squid and would be willing to fix some of their tissue and send it to me, I would be extremely greatful. I can send tubes of RNAlater and pay for shipping. I also require high quality pictures of the squid for identiication purposes and to prove where the tissue came from. I am especially looking to make contacts with anyone who collects Histioteuthis (cock-eyed squid).

Thanks!
