Greenport, Ny - 2009 Squid Season
#1
Glen offered to pin this topic up with Newport, RI - 2009 Squid season. Like ttbeachbum, I was totally disappointed with last year's run which basically didn't happen. I went only one night and caught nothing. I plan to give it my first shot this year on Friday night April 24th. Might be a bit early, but you never know...

I think the alternative way could be more effective, ie, catch the predator (blue or fluke) and make them to spit out the squid. I heard blues are already in Jamaica Bay.

Anyone check out the docks in Greenport recently? Anybody there or any action? I won't be able to make it this weekend but will definitely be there next weekend (Fri & Sat nights). Hopefully the run will have started by then...

Hi, I'm a bit new to fishing for squid off of the pier/dock/shore but would love to try it. Can anyone give a physical address so that I could check out Greenport, NY. Last year I was on the francis fleet out of RI and I had a blast catching them there. I figure its worth a shot here in NY long island where it would be closer.

Thanks in advance.

Take Route 25 into Greenport. Turn right at the traffic light onto 3rd St (and/or follow signs for the Shelter Island Ferry). At night you can park next to the ferry terminal/railroad station. Right next to the ferry terminal is an old railroad dock that a lot of people squid off of since the water is relatively deep. Try there or at the end of the newer marina docks across the way. Both are good spots. I usually go no earlier than 9pm. Good luck!

Someone posted on another site today said he caught blues off Hampton beach had squid in them. So the squid should be here in LI?
#11
Even with this lousy forecast, I'm gonna give it a shot with a few buddies tonight. Will report back tomorrow...

Good Luck, keep us posted.

FYI...I have a confirmed report of squid in the bay. They were seen in decent numbers a few nights ago on a private dock while bass fishing under the lights. Hopefully they will start to show up in Greenport this weekend.

Tough night last night. Got to the docks around 11pm. Our usual spot had no power to plug our light in to. Tried for 15 mins under the overhead lights...nothin. Went over to the railroad dock...about 5 or 6 guys tryin there. One guy said someone had caught 3. I didn't see anything. It started raining again...packed it in at midnight. Total bust. Will try again tonight with a few different strategies. This weather SUCKS.

Hey Southolder,

If it's not raining, We're going to try tonight as well. We will be the ones with the Rotti and the cooler on wheels with the rod holders attached. Stop and say hello!
