What Kind Of Fish?
#1
Dear squidders,

Attached is fish bait used commonly for squidding using baited jig in Batam, Indonesia. This fish is much more effective rather than other fish baits (pilchards, etc). Does anyone know the name of the fish in English? I just search on www.fishbase.org but only find out the latin name of the fish : Stolephorus commersonnii

Here there are enermous amount of this fish playing around our sea (jetty, pier, dock etc.)

Just post some pictures from previous trips using artificial & live bait on Member's Gallery.

Cheers,

Ichang-

Hi Ichang,

Just did a little search and it is part of the anchovi family. Most interesting name I came across was "White-backed Shrimpgoby"

I can fully understand them outfishing any other bait as they are the local food source for the squid.

Anywhere in the world, a local bait will outfish an imported bait.

Good luck with your shrimpgoby expiditions.

It's definately some sort of anchovy - the mouth/head shape is a giveaway, also the eye is distinctive.
