Mud Island, QLD
#1
met up with my mate Tony at the gates of the marina at 1.45am saturday morning to go out to mud for a bash.

wind was next to nothing and off we went and were out there in no time flat.

first baits in the water got slammed in only 10 minutes of being there and a nice snapper of 4.3kg was in the esky....soon followed by another about 1.5kg.

with the excitement we missed another couple of good hits....then it went quiet and we got another legal snapper and a sweety in the esky and then it went dead with only little pickers playing with the baits.

we decided to hang around till the tide changed and see what was going to happen.

as soon as we had the first bit of run we got a nother nice sweety and then a cod about 2.5kg and after that it glassed out and went dead.

a great morning was had and a smooth ride home too.

Yeh I used to fish Mud often. Never much interested in squid fishing previous, but with the light setup on my boat at the time, there were often squid on the fringes. In hindsight it would have been a great by product of interest.

There are definately plenty of squid around Mud Island.

Yuppers, my new goal is to get my 5.2 metre Stessl side consol with 75hp all up and running sooner rather than later. I have close on 800 amps of deep cycle battery banks and a fridge/freezer that "actually works" on board - a tad different from your normal tinnie...

I used to fish Mud Isl a lot and even though I was not into squid fishing at the time, it was of note that with the high powered lights I had on the boat, the squid were often sighted in the peripheries of the lights - in hindsight a great opportunity gawwn missing.

Eyye, what you descibe Mug is clasic "NO RUN = NO FUN". Tide movement certainly impacts on a fishy bite or not,
