you can fish there no prob...
had a decent night last night. all small tubes, all full of eggs...
hooked up with a striper for a sweet 30 seconds on a squid jig too. that was fun.
maybe the season is on the down side of the peak?? ive seen a consistent decline in size and school size over the last almost 2 weeks....

Jamestown last night was steady form time to time with most being small to med, with some large ones from time to time . Action started about 9:15 the bite was in waves with schoolie stripers coming in. Left at midnight with about 3 dozen. Missed a few because of the light bite and the wind.

I was with them thursday night. we had a pretty good night. squids was out in force but really didnt take the jigs till 2hrs before we left. I kept changing my set up to see what they liked. An hr before we left i found that just a 3.0 jig with no sinker worked great. I recommend you bring two poles with different set ups(unlike me changing my set up every 30mins).

Hi All,
Oh man... went out last night from 8 pm to 2 am at both Jamestown DEM and Ft. Adams... came back with 9 small squids. It was a gorgeous night... warm, barely any wind, and calm waters... it definitely seemed like a good night for fishing. There was no huge run or large school to be found. The most I've seen was half a bucket by a few people, but I can't tell how long they were there for. I left the DEM after I was squeezed out by some rude fishermen. And at Ft. Adams there were too many big balls of bait fish to contend with.

I was there from 11 to 4 this afternoon and only had a few.
They were there for a while, but just a few at a time---no schools.
no one had more than a dozen.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm tempted to go up tomorrow after work but won't be able to make it up in time to get on the frances fleet so i'm limited to shore/bridge/pier fishing. I'm just concerned that the water will be churned up from T'storms. We had some intense T storms in Hartford county and they're predicting more today. I'm assuming rhodie might get hit as well.
If any of the locals can comment on the water conditions, i'd appreciate it. Hate to make a 2 hour + drive each way to fish in mucky water. Squidding never seems to be good under those conditions.

It's over for me, The last trip last week got us about 40 in 6 hrs, not enough for me. This run just didn't come together for me this year. On to bigger fish.

A buddy and I fished Tuesday night off jamestown from 2000 til 0000 and caught about 23 small squid on the new p;ink jigs from Luckys bait and tackle.
Might try again tonight if I get the chance.

I fished Ft Wetherill solo last night.
The fog was eery and cool at once. I looked down the line and you could see it blowing by each light and all the rods were lit up against the background of waving fog. It was very cool.
I fished from 2100 to 0100 and got about 1/2 a bucket alone. It was good and consistent.
I made a couple of friends. I think they were Vietnamese. They sniped my light, but in exchange provided some nice conversation and a schooling about how to bail squid.
I did better with one of the Puget Sound unweighted jigs and my own rather than two.
Pink worked well.
Blue worked well.
It was pretty cool to catch squid on some jigs I designed and built 3 years ago. Here is the kicker, they look just like these "new" Puget Sound jigs. I bought all the components from the same guy. He is very cool and helpful. He is a frequent poster here. http://www.squidjig.com/
One thing I learned from my new buddies was to cast the jig out until it was about 3-4' out of sight of the light. Keep a light contact with the jig and at the slightest movement, gently life 3-4". If you are on, the rod will set, if not, let the jig flutter back down.
I hope to get out once or twice more. Any ideas as to when the run normally ends?
