Newport Ri 2010 Squid Season
You guys ever use orange? I have a couple small orange ones that I was killing with last year. Pink seems to be the standard for me though. I worry about the visibility of the blue and green in dark water, but some years those seem to have been the go-to colors.
Hey Squidman

Can't find your cell number. I remembered my cell went overboard last yr in about 300 ft of water. I see youve moved to Ma. Near beantown? Maybe youll want to try cod, pollack, haddock out of Lynn Ma with me. I plan on squidding as soon as I hear they're in thick. I can't believe this is my 1st post this season.

Head out of the harbor and turn right. Look for the fleet. You'll find them. A group of us are going out on Friday on the He;en H's small boat called the angler. Boat leaves at 6am Be in the water and follow the boat out there. Set up with the fleet. We did it last year and bailed the squid. Find the boat launch on Google. Snaildarter

The charter is a private arrangement made through a bunch of guys on Fishshark Adventures and is full. He capped it at 25 guys.

Go to the site and go to the group charters forum. They have all kinds of trips planned but no other squid trips that I'm aware of. However, the Helen H is supposed to be running trips as of May 1 so you could check their office about a trip on Sat for their other boat. We are on the small boat called the Angler.

There are a bunch of guys that do 6 pack charters that you can search on google that might be available. Check with Capt. Dom who recently posted. he might be able to give you a heads up. Best of luck. Snaildarter

LOL...yeah...the bugger is always keeping me busy. Unfortunately this time is died for good. Let me know the next time you decide to make an appearance, it would be nice to run into you again. And, yes, stir fry squid is the ######. Other news..... Caught two keepers last night, upper bay on fresh pogeys. First Striper of the year. Its on like Donkey...

Thanks for the info SNAILDARTER, I looked and for some reason thought it to be closer. It would be much cheaper to just buy12 flats of squid!! Going to Newport is pushing the FUN envelope as it is. Thanks again for the info.
Glow sounds interesting. Let us know how it works. Last year my son and I tried rigging cheap glow sticks to the line to see if that would attract the squid but it never seemed to do any good. Of course not much seemed to work for us last year anyway.
The glow can be just as effective as pink (at times). I always have at least a couple glow on me.

Youd be surprised at smart these little squid are. The glow sticks might attract them from a distance. But once they get closer, they'll know it aint food.

Yesterday late morning /early afternoon a couple of squid at GI. Mid-afternoon nothing at all. Many boats off Pt. Jude lit up like Christmas Trees last night. Probably squid fishing but not near shore yet.

At night (on the rare occasion I get squid) I can actually sight fish, watching for the schools to move in and then presenting the jigs right in front of them. When that happens we get doubles a lot and can fill the cooler in no time. When you fish for them during the day do you see them come in or is it blind jigging? Also, what tide is best?

I do better on a moving tide (incomming tide seems to be best). When I can see them during the day I do better because I can watch them take the jig. But when they are running heavy it doesn't matter whether I see them or not day or night. They just latch on and don't let go!!
