Newport Ri 2010 Squid Season
Welcome to the forum Skeldog. Did Benny's have any pink jigs in stock? Last time i was in there they only had green and blue. If you end up going let us know how you make out.

Cheers,

Tatonka
Thanks for the warm welcome

Last night I saw the Smaller Jigs had Pink and the "Glow" yellow and in the Bigger size had a Blue / see-thru and the "glow" yellow.

I'll update the Boards on what I find.

I noticed that Steve Mederios of RISAA put together a small web site of the important info. You can also find the info on the RI DEM site. I've seen this mentioned a few times, so this is the last time I'll bring it up.

I think it's time to get my rod, jigs, light and bucket ready and throw them into the back of the car. And some rain gear!

Hey if you are looking for jigs and are near Fall River, Mass on your way to Newport a friend of mine owns Bucko’s Parts & Tackle Service. He just started stocking up on jigs he has a decent supply of yozuri, local made, and some cages for making your own, in all-different sizes. The shop is also a full service reel repair shop if you have a reel needing attention. I had herd the local tackle shop up there by CCRI had closed down so if you like supporting the local guy give Bucko’s a look.

For GPS the address is

191 Stafford rd

Fall River, Mass 02721

Phone:508-674-7900

Thanks for letting me post this here It is a great hole in the wall shop that caters to all kinds of fishing and anglers.

Since we have a problem in the bridge. Is there any other place that we can go for squids?
Reply
wow, it looks like much of the bridge is off-limit to squid fishing this year. Maybe I will bring a kayak and squid from a kayak now.
Reply
what about the Wall? is it off-limit for squidding too?

there is a wood dock just north of the causeway. it's near the navy housing. i believe it is public, but im not sure. i've never fished it but i have certainly seen people with lines in the water there. not sure what they were targeting...

I wouldn't panic just yet. Sounds like mostly the free parking, which is limited anyways, is affected. Bring lots of quarters and park at one of the meters on Washington Street. Also, there is a small public lot around the corner at the end of Washington on Long Wharf Mall. Check Mapquest or Google Maps if you are not familiar with the street names. I spoke with someone who was there a week ago, and he only mentioned that the parking was restricted. He was able to jig (nothing caught) and never mentioned access problems on the bridge itself. If I can get down there on Sunday, I'll send a report.

I went there yesterday for an hr. There was nothing but what seem like baby shrimp swimming round.

I don't think the bridge is closed down from what I seen. The sign that says you need a life vest, i think pertains to the platform they have below the bridge for the workers. In between them two signs are is a wooden board, use to cover up a ladder for the workers to get to the platform.

I'm 100% certain that someone will try to make there way onto that platform and fish and then be on the news the next day.

The tourism center has a large parking lot and ita a lot cheaper than feeding a meter if you park in the back side its next to the street facing Goat island

As I recall, the meter's hunger stopped at 8 or 9 pm anyway, so it is not a big deal.

For sure the platform is going to mess with us on an outgoing tide, so hopefully, we can all be tolerant, of the closer quarters and cut each other a little more slack, so that we can all have fun.

Welcome Skeldog, My husband and I have been squidding for 4 years. Look for us near the wall. We typically dress in our camo.

Happy Squidding,

killer jigs at Sams in Portsmouth I just went to Sam's Bait and Tackle in Portsmouth or Middletown - I can never remember which one.

Hidden.

In the back case.

Out of line of sight of plain view.

Underneath all this crap Sam has on the top of the case is the best selection of squid jigs I have seen yet.

He has the classic Yozuris, some smaller yozuris, Yamashita, home made ones and a world of the ever popular line stretcher ones. FWIW, they are all at great prices. If you want to know more, don't PM me, but go there and support our local guys. Sam is very cool, laid back and deserves to thrive.

Actually, nevermind. Next time I go there, I am just going to clean him out anyway. [Image: drool.gif]

ATG- leave a couple jigs on the shelf! I have off Monday and looks to be too cold to do anything else but go for a drive. LOL Portsmouth or Middletown RI? or CT? Not familiar with the shop. Hopefully squid won't hit till I get on regular schedule in early May!! Probably run into you on the water!

KGJ- I can always hope! Really not interested in hunting the elusive squid just catching them. Hopefully the Squid Gods will bless us with bountiful catches this year. They owe us!! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

Hi Guys,

Someone pointed me towards this site a few weeks ago, and I joined up. Looks like a good number of diehard squidders here. I hope this seasons run is better than last years, but only time will tell. The moons are making it difficult to predict the start of the run, could be Late April, could be very late in may into June just like last year. I plan on being out there starting April 26th in Hyannis doing some scouting. Will keep you all informed as to my findings.

Sam's is the mecca for squid jiggers. Sam has a huge selection of jigs, and always is dialed in on when the squid are in....you should all make it a point to go see him at 936 Aquidneck Ave. in Middletown RI 401-848-5909.

For those of you who don't know it, I do squid charters every spring. If you are interested in more information, please contact me at 401-862-0358.
