I've heard it's rare, but people sometimes get a windfall of squid off the Jersey shore/surf.

I tried on Nov 1, at 10:30 PM to 11:45 off one of the public marinas in Monmouth county open to the inlets.

Used a Battery operated LED work light. I think it was at the top of the incoming tide. Lots of small bait in the water. Got a few taps on the squid jig, but nothing caught.

I'll try again as the season progresses.
