real prawn on jig?

has anyone tried using a real raw prawn on a jig? I tried it once with not much luck (maybe there was no squid around?) - the prawn was cooked so maybe the pinky/orange food dye had some effect??? but then again lures come in all colours. just wondering if anyone has had any luck before???
