real prawn on jig? - dom - 07-04-2003 has anyone tried using a real raw prawn on a jig? I tried it once with not much luck (maybe there was no squid around?) - the prawn was cooked so maybe the pinky/orange food dye had some effect??? but then again lures come in all colours. just wondering if anyone has had any luck before??? real prawn on jig? - mangajack - 09-04-2003 Hey Dom <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I too have tried ocean king prawns on the jigs several times with mixed success They are not much chop just hanging in the water column so i add a small float behind the bottom of the jig about two feet away and a small keel lead on the bottom side of the prawn cast and slow retrieves work best however the prawns will get savaged by squid at a fast rate every hit you lose a bit more of the prawn so 4 squid per prawn and you need a new one badly Mangajack |
