For those that were not in Perth for the Calamari classic,a Japanese fellow flew out again from Japan for the Classic and gave us a few of his tips,,,because i fish out of a kayak 99% of my squidding is by trolling but for landbased or boats heres a couple of his tips from his talk.
Number 1 was when you cast out your line the jig must land on the bottom, this he said was very,very important.
Number 2 was give it two or three jerks (best to watch egi vids for this)but make sure you have tension on your line after this,,don't have slack line so it drops down again,then you can do it again after a short while, making sure the jig is coming in parellel as it goes along.
Paul Willis who imports squid jigs and organises the comp was saying he took some Japanese folks out in the boat,,they all casted into the wind while the Aussies casted with the wind behind,the Japanese out fished them.
Anyway i have not tried it but its worth noteing as these folks live and breath squidding for a living,,they are now in Exmouth fishing for squid only !!!
