A.X.L,
I have always had good luck at Flinders. Well, with the exception of two trips to be honest. But 2 failed sessions out of hundreds is not a bad strike rate I reckon. That said, reading others reports, it seems that it does not always produce. As far as tips go, here are mine;'
Get there for first light and have a couple of baited jigs casted out from the end of the jetty as far as you can ( i use surf rods to get distance) when the sun is comming up. That is the insurance policy <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> . Keep an eye on them, watch them floats.
If you can fish with a Northerly or Nor'Westerly wind, this will keep your baited jigs from drifting back into the pier. You can forget about the baits for a while. Southerly winds are a pain in the ass.
Then get your fav jigs and flick around. I have seen calamari taken from the 2nd light post at the start of the jetty right along to the end. The biggest calamari in my experence are taken on baited jigs at Flinders. And there are some big f@#kers out there for sure.
The last few times I have been to Flinders, jigs have out fished the baits.
You will need a drop net or a net on a long pole (a painters pole with a net on the end is perfect) it can be a long drop to the water at low tide.
Try to go on a weekday, it reduces the crowds and gives you a better chance of getting a good spot. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Read the entire Flinders report section, this will give you a very good idea of others ideas and expereinces.
Post a report when you get back, we all love a good squid report!
Hope this helps, good luck.
