Good info matt, and very generous. People are understandably protective about locations on these sites.
My friends think I'm a little disturbed because I actually drive from the Central Coast to Port Stephens to squid for the table and bait. It's about a 2 hour drive. I've had my best rock platform squidding there, for one reason: when I just couldn't land a squid off the rocks, a local kindly pointed out exactly where to cast. He caught plenty, so I knew they were there. I find it's the surefire way to learn to get your lure technique right, by practising how to catch them when you know they're in front of you. Now that I know my technique works, I spend more of my time out searching for more spots of my own. Also on working a new technique for a particular spot. It's a slow process, especially with the big seas, but I've now got his backup spot and a few solid ones of my own. Pure trial and error, as the weed beds are a little hard to see from 50-60m away, but I'm gradually getting there.
Anyway, another question for Matt. If inside and outside Boat Harbour are too rough to squid from the rocks, what are the next best options? Is four mile worth a go? Any advice, even vague areas, appreciated.
