I went to newport two weeks ago and most people there have gotten the squid but very small squids.

If you want to go fishing in the winter book a charter and try some Cod fishing. Squid wont be returning til middle/late spring.

I am from boston, as for squid. I don't doubt there some still around. Worth trying? probably not. Expect squid to arrive late april early may.

As for codding. France's fleet in point galilee fishes for cod right now. 75 dollars a trip. If you want to stay local

My suggestion is to fish off the American Classic out of lynn, MA awesome cod fishing (usually). But with the closure they have to steam far to go for 'em. Last trip I did with them was in November, I caught over 22 keeper fish, does not include cusk.

I believe their schedule is 5am til 4-5pm

"5am departure, $99.00 fare CALL 781-599-3088 TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT "

They have a web page but its better to talk to capt jim due to being in the "off" months.

I don't like to fish out of plymouth (thats if your talking about Capt John boats)

Let me know how it goes ...

I though cod won't be around here until mid March, early April ?

unless you get on a boat and head out to the ocean ?

Cod are a cold water fish.. . only months I have caught cod from shore are. April, may, june, and Nov, december.

But rumor has it in the dead of winter when its a freaking blizzard or raining or jus darn cold, they come out. I haven't really tried in jan, feb. Trying now.

But i usually don't fish out of nut for cod.

if you really wanna catch a cod.. wait til april/may. I am just realy freaking bored. =) Plus the AC has been at dock a while, due to bad weather. Ill let you know when I head out to the AC again,
