Long Island Area
#1
Hi everyone, here are some snippets from a good article I found about the long island area. Should help you to find some good places to fish.

Quote:Fishing report: Squid arrive, fluke to follow

BY TOM SCHLICHTER

...Pods of the colorful 10-armed creatures slid into Montauk early last week and eased into Peconic and Shinnecock Bays on Thursday and Friday evenings.

....the soft-skinned cephalopods can be caught the length of Long Island if you spend the time to find them.

Montauk, Shinnecock Bay and Greenport Harbor are among the perennial East End squid fishing hot spots. To the west, the Jones Beach Piers, Wantagh Park, the State Channel and Mt. Sinai Harbor also offer possibilities. When the schools are running thick, some open boats add special squid trips to their schedule on short notice. The Viking Fleet in Montauk will sail for squid both Saturday and Sunday.

.... In Greenport Village, for example, fishing from the popular Rail Road Dock and Main Street Dock (behind Claudio's Restaurant) is prohibited for now, concentrating squid fans on the Mitchell Park dock directly behind the carousel in the middle of town.

They lie; We were there Saturday Night, not a bite or a tug. The crowd really wasn't there either. There was police or security presence that walked down the dock a bit after 10, but they didn't bother anybody.

Personally for me, the squid on Long Island were non-existent last year. Word from the boat captains was the blues arrived and wiped out the squid before they got near the docks.

Feel free to chime in with any reports, sightings, wishings.....

That's correct, saw post said every blue they caught in Greenlawn spit out squid. So they were there but too scared. maybe tell the blue to delay their arrival?....
