It is definitely wrong when you fish next to the guy keep pulling 3 or 4 times as you do, base on my years of experience of squidding, When the bite is hot, it doesn't matter what type of jig big or small, blue or pink you have as long as they look like a bait, but it matters how fast you pull and unhook the squid because squid only come as a wave, they bite for a certain time and stop. However, when the bite is shy, meaning the squid is picky, you need to know if they bite at the bottom or top or middle, and use sinker accordingly, not sinking too fast to scare them away or take too long to reach the bottom. one more thing, try multiple color of jig to see what color they hit on and change accordingly.

Good luck squidding
You're definitely correct about some folks being able get them up and off the hook faster than others. And also correct that at times they hit almost anything.

As long as you know your limits with the yak you should be OK. You may get inky since you will be landing the squid close to the water but you will definitely cover more ground than standing on a dock. If it were me, I'd go out looking for them and return to find they clobbered them at the dock.

Went out Friday to Hyannis, got about 150lbs between 4 guys, much slower than before so Im done at Hyannis. We fished the area of the fish trap in about 17-22 ft. Then went to Colliers to load up on huge scup. Next will be Ptown or RI, Ill let you know how I do.
Good luck.

Looks like the scup are in and taking over the grounds....may need to move to deeper water for more consistent 'squid only' unless somebody finding other than Colliers

Thx IAMFISH.....

Argh....but does that mean you still did 'ok' in 20 feet or less? Did you try the shallow areas over by the fish traps? That was good in years past. Hoping I can get another trip in before the blues / bass scatter them, but worried run might be over before I can get out again. :-( . Â

I am away in NJ until Monday but want to get another squid trip in when I get back. Please post any updates about the run around Hyannis, otherwise I may venture to P-Town on Monday.

Wen out on Saturday morning fishing from 7am-9am caught ton of scup. Ton of black seabass too but they hard alito smaller than size limit.  Scup are everywhere, guys are still trying to catch squid near the collier ledge I think it die out around 9ish since most of them left. We didn't fish for squid since too much action on the scup n black seabass. We had fun drop the line within 5-10 secs theres a bite. .
