2017 Rhode Island Squid Report

Thanks Gilligan.

Like they say, Sometimes fishing lures are designed to catch more fishermen than fish.

If anyone fishes in newport area I'm always there. But I use these bottom teasers and it seems to work really well for me

So the capecod times had an article. Looks like the squid trawlers have been out of Hyannis since monday, but does not sound like they have caught too much.

Friday April 28th between 5-8pm I went surfing at Fenway Breachway in Westerly. I see alot of cars (for this time of year) and figure they must be surfers. Walking onto the beach I see about 6-8 people on the end of each side of the breachway. So I'm thinking silly fisherman they must be getting antsy cause the waters still pretty darn cold. I walked out to the end and asked what they are fishing for and they say stripers (ummm Ok). Over the next two hours I watched them reel in about a dozen 12 inch schoolies. Go figure.

Quote:Too bad Gilligan, I'm only about 30 mins from Stonington and could meet you there but my inlaws just drove here from Nebraska this morning so I can't get away... We will be at a shooting competition in Stonington all day tomorrow and will try to check out the dock. Hopefully you will break your tradition and get some squid this weekend! Water's over 50!!! YES!!! Good Luck!!!

Nothing in Stonington last night. Only one other guy there, and he got nothing too. One more week!

I, like everyone else, wish that the squid would come in sooner, but it seems that they usually begin to arrive after the first week of May. I'm thinking another 7-14 days and we'll begin to see action.

I try Nut Island, Quincy MA on Friday 4/28, water temp was about 48F.  Was there from 5-7pm no sign of squid. About 5 other trying to catch some squid as well. I will try again this weekend and post the result Big Grin

Hi everyone.  I'm completely new to squid fishing and hoping to go out this Friday or Saturday night.  I have been trying to do some research on decent locations from shore. Everything I see keeps bringing me back to Goat Island.  Without asking anyone to give up their honey holes, does anyone know of any other decent piers that I may be able to catch a few squid off?  I am coming from central MA so more north would be better... It seems like the water temps are creeping up to the right range so hopefully I can bring a couple home
