Has anybody tried mid-island locations, like Bellport, Mastic Beach, Patchouge, or along the north shore? I'm working down there during the week, and I'm planning on bringing my gear. not sure where to start.

Hi Rusty, if you're talking squid I don't think there will be any for another two months or so. By the way I was up around Mystic last fall and couldn't find anybody who knew if there were squid to be caught there on the fall run. Are there places there to catch them?? Thanks, Gene

Really two months? I think we're 2-3 weeks away in Newport. LI should be about the same time, no?
Around Mystic, you might try the wharf in downtown Mystic just south of the drawbridge-I haven't tried there, but it could be a good spot. Other places would be public docks / wharfs in the Mystic River (Mystic-Noank), or Stonington Harbor.
I tried a few places last fall and didn't get anything. Also didn't see anyone else squidding, so I'm not sure if there's a fall run.

Rusty, I must have been in a time warp, I think 3-4 weeks. I'll be going up to the Vinyard if they come in as massively as they did last year. Did you get 'em in Mystic/Stonington in the spring??

Hi everyone!
I saw same guy's blog he was squidding somewhere in Brooklyn. He got a lot of squid.
Also same guy was squidding in somewhere mid-island. He did not tell us where he was. But it looked like Port Jeff. Did anybody try the area?

Whats the blog link for the squid fishing in brooklyn?
I haven't seen the blog and I've searched everywhere online for any recent squid fishing reports.
Hope its not a few years old...

Hi,
It is Japanese guy's blog.
I believe he lives in Queens. After Sandy he could not get enough gas, so he drove close fishing point from his house.(in 30 min)
He got squid on Nov. 2, 2012. Can you find where is it? Brooklyn?

On the same page, he went mid-LI on Nov 1st, Is this Port Jeff?

Anybody know anything about Port Jeff? A guy told me it's a good place to go, but it's a bit of a haul for me...

I noticed you are from Stonington Conn. Some of the best Squid fishing is in your area. There are creeks in Stongton and even more action in Rhode Island far better than Port Jefferson. As for PJ the pier near the ferry hold squid when temperature is 5-58 degrees.
