Hi All,
Colossal is finally back in the country! I have been holidaying in the Adriatic for the last 3 months. Let me tell you - it is good to be back. After trying my heart out to catch something decent in the Adriatic, I can honestly say that we are very lucky here in Australia as the Adriatic has been raped of all it acquatic life. Rod and reel fishing is nonexistent as there is nothing to catch................ It is good to know that I can come back to Australia and with a bit of effort catch a nice feed of squid and have fun at the same time!
Anyway has anyone got an update for Queenscliff in the last few days. I went there last Wednesday evening on the rising tide and did not catch anything. The Pier was closed from the Shed onwards. Does anyone know when the full pier will be open for business. I also tried a Port Arlington and caught nothing but I kind of expected this as the tide was dropping. The seal hanging around the pier didn't help either. Has anyone got an updated report since last Wednesday. My gut feeling that Queenscliff would not start firing up until late September / October.
It is good to be back. Now if only I can find some squid..............................

you mean the w-o-g poles. haha. their pretty cool yea, especially when theres a strong current. thats the advantage over rod and reels. you dont have to cast and see your line on the other end of the pier.
you can buy them at you local tackle stores, should be around 30-40bux. use heavier line than you would use on your rod and reel. i use 50lb but thats my preference, you can use anywhere around 20lb. correct me if im wrong, length of the line approx 2-3 mtrs depending on depth on water. you want it to sit around 1-2mtr below surface.
the most important part: your clamp ! you dont want to be standing there for hours holding that heavy thing. you need to go buy a big strong clamp, weld a U and a ? and that will hold your pole. (or you can buy the lighter ones) but still you want to put it down sometimes...
if you catch a squid, dont panic, lift up and drop it on the pier. OR just fold your pole in ( telescopic). plan how your going to lift and put your catch, otherwise its going to get messy and your going to knock people out, haha !
GOOD LUCK

went last night for donuts
me and my dad was the only ones on the pier. no old regulars there, no squid ink marks - i think it got washed ?
queenscliff has been dead as, the squid hasn't been there lately. last few months i been only getting 2-3 per trip. and i only manage 1 whiting this year compared to last year ~ 60 in 2 months
i have a feeling the renovations to the pier had some effect to the homes of the fish/squids... ever since the renos i been doing crap as.
where you been going tonci? havn't seen you since
mates went lorne last night for donuts as well

Just came back from Queenscliff and landed 1.5 kg squid, so happy with the result today as this is my biggest catch. I am using Shimano Exigile 2.5 colour 14T as my favorite squid jig and always catch squid with this. All the best guys.

Hi All,
Â
I'm heading down to Ocean Grove around the new year period for about a week. Having never been there, is there any great land based spots in Ocean Grove or the surrounding areas you would recommend? I know this is the Queenscliff thread, so thought some people might know spots in Ocean Grove.
