Hey Guys..............How many do you fit in a bucket........
Do you have legal bag limits over there, or is it just catch as many as you can?? Cheers! Nathan

It looks thatt they are finally coming. I'm going down there tomorrow with couple of friends from boston. When is the best time to catch as many as possible? Do they have some kind of rhythm of appearance? We are planning to get there by 4pm. Thanks!

Propane lamps are alright. It takes about 3 to 5 of those lamps to match the brightness of my Petromax. Petromax lanterns are great investments! They'll cost a little more at the beginning but pays for itself in the longrun since it utilizes burning fuels such as kerosene. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':oops' />

About 40 or 50 average size squid will fill a bucket. Our squids aren't as big as the ones in Australia and god for bid Mexico's red devils. Our squids are slender and sleek in shape, but they're sure tasty!!! There's no bag limits... it's on an all you can catch basis.

Thats interesting - some of those squid in the bucket in the photo look a reasonable size - would love to catch 40-50 in a session!!! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':oops' />

I been there for about 5 1/2 hours and only managed half a bucket. That's more than I can say for others who were lucky to get 10. The bite has slowed down. We'll see that the next, and then next, and next day holds... <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':oops' />

Finally!! Was there Sat. morning and caught about a dozen or so in 3 hours. Slow most of the time. Didn't fish there for the rest of the weekend cuz the place was probably mighty crowded. I am going back again during the week night and hopefully there's less crowd.

Was there Sunday 5:00 am to 10:00pm caught only 6 squid. It was a lousy day it rained on and off. When it starting raining everybody disappeared. It was not a good tide, next week should be better.
I'll probably charter a boat for some squid and bottom fishing, The charter will be on SUNDAY MAY 16, 2004 If anybody is interested, email me at ruphantom@hotmail.com

Did anyone catch mackerels from the bridge yet? They are around when the squids are in.

A couple of nights ago I seen some big mackerels mixed with sea herrings under my lamp. Now, they're gone...

I also live in Dartmouth and squid/fish off of Pednaram Bridge. My cousin was squiding there last week and caught two bucket fulls of squid between him and a friend. I thought it was a hoax, but I went squiding the next day and a total stranger told me him and his brother also caught two buckets full. Went Saturday night but caught nothing. We'll see what happens. I'm off tonight to give it a try. Any advice on technique? I am a semi-newbie at squiding. I use a yellow and blue jig with a one ounce weight at the belly. Thanks "D"

Hey Dion, welcome to the squid community... LoL
Anyways, first of all u need yourself a lamp with a rope and have it hanging off the bridge to light things up. Since you're a newbie at this, I recommend that you use a propane lamp. I use a petromax lamp (conventional fuel). Bird style jigs such as 'Yo-zuri's ultra lens' are best. Pink is the preferable color. If not opt for green. When getting jiggy, you want to drop your rig with the 1 once sinker/2 ounce if the current is moving too fast, to the bottom and gently raise the rod tip. And drop it down gently. You'll soon get the hang of it... <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Not a lot of squid, but plenty of Mackerels!!! I would like to call it the Big Mack-Attack! It was raining awfully hard but the macks ruled Goat Island!!! The macks ranged from a foot to 1 1 /2 ft! Bit Macks!!! There were so man people snagged them on their squid jigs! Awesome!!! My father racked up about 50 or so of these colossel macks! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Those Mackarel can be pretty tasty!!!! I first had them on a trip to Ireland, was fishing for them off 100' cliff's.
How much longer is the squid fishing expected to run over there???

The squid run is starting to weaken as fish moves into the bay. The Mack-Attack will slow things down a bit but pretty mildy. When the Stripe Bass and Bluefish start to move in that's when squid becomes scarce. The squids been known to hang around through summer into fall, but the run in the summer is pretty weak. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/us.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Doesnt sound like it lasts for all that long, although if you get a couple of buckets full that will feed you until next season!!!!

Anyone been out last weekend? Heard the mackerel were in but wondering if the squid have left yet? Also, has anyone been squidding near the Point Judith/Gallalee area?
27-05-2004, 04:09 PM
Oh yea, the squids are still around... Around here, around there... You just have to find them. Doesn't seem like the squid are schooling in the masses because stripers and blues have moved in. Caught myself a barely legal striper the other day along with a nice size blue. I hear the squids are running pretty good off the Point Judith Breachway.
