Hi all, I have been reading this forum for a while and looking into squid tackle and techniques. Al-cheapo jigs are everywhere while quality is hard to come by.
As far as rods go, up here in FNQ absolutely nothing!!
I have had a spare Daiwa Alphas 103 in the shed and I have been looking for a rod for it and descided on a Squid Rod, but getting one for a baitcaster is impossible so I have been looking for alternatives.
This morning my hunt was over - I found a Shimano Backbone Elite Bream BBE802, an 8 foot ultra light, slow rod for a marched down price of $60. In the shop I checked the rods backbone and it was perfectly alligned for a baitcaster.
So now it is fitted up with the 103 with 20lb braid and 2m of 12lb flurocarbon leader.
Tomorrow morning I will try to ink it at Palm Cove jetty! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
