hello as i'm new to squidfish i'll take some time to introduce myself i'm 17 and most of my fishing is done down south landbased from portsea pier to rye pier.

I will be going for a fishing trip to this area this weekend landbased and was just wondering where the action is at the moment coz i havent fished down that way since christmas.

last time i was there rye was going nuts on squid sorrento for leatherjacket and whiting and portsea for gars...is this still the case? i mainly would like to fish for squid but hoping for some salmon gars and whiting as well. looking forward to your replys thanks, Torre

well i tryed down that way anyways this weekend for nothing but tiny squid that were all returned exept for a few used as live bait. fishing was terrible this time round compared to other fishing trips ive had down there. all the big squid have died and left babys not even worth targeting. so we tried bait fishing but the soldier crabs r back (i know because we caught dozens) and stealing bait as well as tiny leatherjackets.

hi all, have been fishing sorrento and blairgowrie quite a bit in the last month,.

sorreto has been good to me and my mate, the prick jigged 2 nice big calamari at once. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

i even did well at blairgowrie with a few nice sized ones last thursday

best jigs this month have been : blue , red, brown. 1.8 - 2 grams

just got back from down that way, nothing at all tonight , i think the water was just way to calm

anyway, will do it all again next week

They are as good as it gets!!!

Some interesting discussion about the ethics of taking big breeders and 10 x 2kg hauls each.

I dont have a problem with what they did- it was within the bag limit after all.

Cheers

70kg of squid?

they may not have broken any laws

but just because you could, doesn't mean that you should

good luck to them and well done on the catch,

but maybe they should release the breeding stock

it's only common sence

half thier luck , you'd be as happy as a pig in shyt with a session like that....and no bag limits broken.

no different if you went out fishing and caught 5 knobby's between 7 - 10kg...woo hoo

mug
make squid your friend...then bag them
