i am a newbie to this sight. i have gone squid fishing maybe 3x in my whole life without any success. need to learn as much as possible so i can lift this skunk hat off my head. is anyone out there willing to take a newbie on a successful squid trip so i can figure out what i am doing wrong. i watch the people over at goat island catching but i always seem to have the wrong stuff.
thanks

Hey lavaman I'm going to assume your from New England somewhere, since you posted in the Newport,RI topic. If your going to fish in GI i suggest using a jig size 3.5 or lower and using a sinker size 1/2 oz or smaller. that is what i use, some people at GI use 2oz sinker which i think is way to heavy to feel the squid taking your jig.
Here is my setup I have two jigs on my line one 3.0 and second 1.5 or 2.0 with a 1/2 oz sinker on the bottom. I normally tie the bigger jig on top. Now when I'm not catching at all i'll just take the sinker off and just let the jigs slowly sink down to the bottom.
I'm going to Gi thursday night ill be near the first yellow ladder looking straight to the newport bridge by the basketball court. Feel free to come ask me about it if you go.

Located in RI but i hav been to aussie land and what a beautiful country. your very lucky to live there.
thanks for the advice averyone. pot0mon i think i'm going to take you up on that offer. pm me and we can exchange cell #'s. i didn't realize how important the weight of the jig were. i went to the riswa seminar on squid fishing mon and the didn't mention weight or how to jig them. talked about a good light setup but he had a generator. what do you do for a light source.
