Friend informed me yesterday, they are seeing tiny squid in the water by the harbor entrance at Port Jeff while black fishing.

I hear you brother. I plan to try next week. Tides look good for Huntington.

Hey Paul just read your blackfish article. Very cool.. and awesome video! We need to video squid attacking jigs. When water low, I have seen schools swim by and one would turn and attachk a floating jig I was using. Great sight to see. Are you writing another squid article? I plan to start in one week. Tides look good for Huntington next thurs/fri. Will keep you posted or hopefully see you there.

Thanks for the kind words. I plan on trying to get some video of squids this season. One of my priorities. I wrote an article on dock fishing for squid. Hoping it will be out in the Nov. glossy issue of the Fisherman. I say hoping because I submitted it but haven't heard from the editor as to whether they will use it. Anyway, I doubt you have anything to learn from me, lol.

I plan on trying for squid in Huntington this week but I'm doubtful that it will be very good. Water temp is way high for this date. On the flip side, at this rate we may be catching them on Christmas day!

.........Hope to see you on the dock, covered in ink.

I mean I already went last night. Nothing doing. In fact, there seemed to be small blues around. My rig got hit a few times and finally had my rig chopped in half, losing a precious jig and a sinker

Hate to disappoint, but I gave Huntington a really good try tonight and came up empty. Used my light and tried vertical jigging as well as casting egi. Conditions were perfect for a good bite. It's just not happening yet. Didn't come home empty handed, however. I managed to snag a big blue crab that must have been trying to attack my jig.

Thanks for all your hard work prospecting. Agree water too warm yet . Last year had 8 December 8 fishing from bulkhead, since floating docks were already removed. Would be nice to have fresh calamari for Christmas dinner, lol.

Just a side note.

I use rechargeable LED flood lights for squid fishing, and the light spectrum tend to be too white and cold. So I went to photo supply store and got a daylight filter sheet.

I cut the sheet and fitted on to the light, now the light is much softer and more bait fish seems to gather under the light.

you mean the too bright light will scare away baitfish?? I always wonder if it is a a good idea that  we also put a chunk basket under the water  to attract bait fish?

Interesting idea on bait basket...........As far as light filter, I was just try to mimic the warm yellow flood light that uses generator, the white spectrum from the LED make me feel colder.;-)

I see a guy using a underwater light and chunk basket under the water. The baitfish just swarm around the chunk basket and creating a fish ball around it.
