Have you seen Humboldt squid along the Oregon coast?

Since 2002, Humboldt squid have been increasing in numbers in Oregon waters. In their southern range, these large predators feed on hake, anchovies, sardines, various other fishes, and other squid, including each other. Researchers at Oregon State University are studying the Humboldt squid range expansion in Oregon to determine where Humboldt squid are at different times of year and what the squid are feeding on. We are collaborating with scientists, Oregon fishermen, and citizen science groups to learn all we can about these animals, and we would love to hear from you!

Please tell us where you saw the squid:

1. When/Where was the squid (GPS coordinates if possible)?

2. Were there many other squid?

3. Were you targeting or catching another species?

4. Any other notable information?

We are also looking for Oregon fishermen to collaborate by collecting tissue samples? Please contact Sarikka if you are interested.
