2nd time squidding last night from my boat off Omaha.
Made some squid jigs with some wire and treble hooks, with a couple of hooks on the wire to attach bait.
Used a 500w halogen running off a generator and a 50w green waterproof led light.
Fishing was hard, had a few takes, think I need to try some different colored jigs, but so far they seem to like the bait especially piper and pilchard, (those squid are crafty buggers).
There was tons of fish eggs in the water, it was absolutely thick with the stuff.
Caught a nice sized john dory with the baited jig as-well. (BONUS).

Thanks glen, i have been looking for some but no luck.
Went out lsst night and only got one. The water was pretty murcky (lots of rain).
Bought anothr squid jig aswell but i havnt had a take on the jigs, just the bait.
I think they might go off the bite for a while as there have been tons of fish eggs in the water, and i noticed last night they are hatching, so there will be heaps of easy pickings for the squid.
Yeah it works both ways. The bait fish attract the squid which is good but if they are not hungry then they may be harder to catch! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />
I am also new to this squid fishing But I am importing a small saltwater activate light that has worked in attracting squid. It is called an ESCA & we have success with it on squid & many other species in NZ.
lso I agree with others that using squid jigs, improves catch success..................let me know if you want details on the ESCA's or squid jigs & using them around the Leigh/Omaha area.
