The specs are as above but the Okuma's have Fuji Alconite guides & Fuji reel seat, while the Rapala uses Fuji SIC guides as posted above.

Will try to get some decent pics tonight.

Stainless on the Okuma.

The Rapala may also be stainless, but will confirm with the guys at work who developed the T-Spec range.

Sorry for the slow reply, things have been flat out.

So, the Rapala EGI rod is also using stainless steel guide frames.

They didn't think the extra cost in production, thus at the retail end, was worth it.

They are worth checking out, Okuma for the budget range or the Rapala for the higher end.

thanks for that,

they are pricey. but imo worth the cost. i would have thought if they had 2 models, they would have made the better one...........'top of the range'

the rods ive looked at with s/s guides are just so tip heavy. especially with a ultra light reel (200g-ish). just wont balance........

egi rods being such a long rod and so many guides makes it more noticeable than with a shorter spin rod.

just my opinion.

The Rapala EGI rod is part of a line up under the T-Spec name (all with 2 year warranty).

They are quality (even without titanium guide frames <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> ). The EGI model is very well balanced, but I guess it's 1 of those thing where you need to try it yourself.

I haven't forgotten about pics, and will do my best to get them up.

Where are you based and do you Squid from land?

fair enough,

i agree, there isnt anything wrong with the quality of the s/s guides, its just the weight /balance difference.

im in tas, land based and boat.

Just received my Graphiteleader Nuovo Calamaretti GONCS-862M in the mail yesterday and it is a thing of beauty. It was purchased from japanprofishing.com for $330aud delivered. They are excellent to deal with and I had it in my hands 5 days after payment. It only weighs 108gms, rated to 1.2pe and has all Fuji titanium sic guides. The rod is also made in Japan. It feels awesome paired with either my Luvias 2506 or my 2010 Certate 2004 and I can't wait to use it.

I am using a Berkley EGI master 1.8- 3.0 with a daiwa EGEE. Which seems adiquate but I am still only new to squiding. But most important of all, I feel comfortable with the outfit, it works, I have caught squid on it.

I would like to invest in a Jap high quality Eging rod to see the difference from my berkley??? But not high on the agenda ATM.

I have just purchased a Nitro Custom Squid and it is also a thing of beauty. Hopefully give it a run this weekend with some of the new Gan Craft lures that just arrived from Samurai Tackle Japan

I have a few egi rods: for light egi I use a Yamashita Feeling shaft, med The new Samurai Reaction egi, big jigs and long casts you can't beat the Whizzers Jive by Yamaria it's 9 foot with Fuji Titanium K guides.

Seems I owe an apology, just realised I never did post up pics of the Rapala T-Spec.

Very sorry about that.

I'm using a Megabass XOR Caiyen which is 7'8" and is the 'light' version, the reel I use on it is a Daiwa Exist 2508 with Varivas Sea Bass Max power PE 0.8.

It's fantastic for Squidding, Placcying Reds' and even baiting for Bream in Gippsland.

Whilst the 7'8"L is perfect for Harri 3.5's and lighter it does feel a little underweight for anything heavier, but still handles them well!

I highly recommend the Caiyen XOR series as a mate of mine has the 8'6" M?H (medium-heavy) and it is a BEAST with heavier jigs like Uojya 3.5's and Harri Deeps in 3.5.

Cheers.

Well, I'm still using the same rod, but my reel just got a huge boost.

Scored a JDM Soare30 2500hgs for my 40th.

Bit of overkill perhaps for squid, so I'll have to suss out an extra spool for other types of fishing.

Give Shimano Sephia CI4 rod a try, we have been using Shimano for quite a while now. Their rods are not overly priced and quality is quite respectable. Newer Shimano Sephia SS comes with K-Guide System as well.

You might initially find that the rod seems to be on the stiff side. But after using it for a couple of months, the rod's backbone tends to run in and it'll be just right. We travel from places to places when we carry out field testing for our squid jigs, usually we'll just pull the rods apart and leave it around the back seat without any covers. We haven't had a broken rod till now.

Personally I've washed my hands of Shimano rods.

Their quality control has lowered, they seem to be throwing Ian Miller's name on just about everything, and their 1 year limited warranty doesn't cut it on their upper tier rods like the Terez and T-Curve.

Shimano should offer a warranty similar to Innovator Rod's warranty (Nitro) on their upper tier rods instead of forcing people to buy a new rod if they have a failure after the warranty is no longer valid.

"As a bonus offer Innovator has provided, free of charge, an insurance premium for all Innovator fishing rods. In the event of a breakage an insurance excess of AUD $60.00 is payable for each section broken - no questions asked!

The fee includes insurance excess, processing, freight/ protective tube and GST. Being an Australian owned and designed brand name Innovator can service your replacement sections faster than any other brand name available - GUARANTEED!"
