Last couple of months a bit slow?

Hi Guys,



First time poster just wondering if it is only me who has been quiet on

the squid fishing front.

I havnt got one for a couple of months now not that i was getting

lots prior but at least i would get one or two.



Any thoughts??

same for me -this is the info i have collected

in summer the squid breed twice-once at the start and once at the end in winter they go into deeper water to feed and hunt

so many good summer spots wont produce nearly as well <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Here in Western Australia we can catch squid all year round but find there as less of them but they are bigger early summer. At the moment (early winter) there are quite a few around but mainly small ones, we can catch our bag limit of 30 for the boat in about 2 hours. We are heading out for a try on Sunday so I will let you know how we go. We have finally had a little rain and this tends to help. When the water is gin clear they can be a little harder to tempt.

yeah when i was in WA i caught tons of squid

Had a few mates reporting they've been catching a lot of squid the past few weeks at Maroubra. They mentioned the larger squid were more active at night and caught on 3.0 size jigs.

I hav'nt done any squidding around Maroubra, Coogee, Bondi areas. Looks like i need to give it a try.

Is there anything i would need to look out for safety wise?

Check out the conditions from a weather forecast site first before going. In particular the swell and swell direction are important. Just a rule of thumb any swell over 2m is high and you should not attempt fishing in these conditions unless it is a very high ledge and you know the spot very well.

As for safety equipment, life-vests and rock spike boots are your lifelines. These days life-vests are now very stylish and useful with many pockets where you can put your lures, leaders, line cutters, pliers and some basic terminal tackle. Just like the one you can see in my profile picture.
