Hot Spots Around Wollongong NSW
#1
Hello All, My names Wilso.

I'm a 19 yr old male from Wollongong, NSW Australia. My passion is fishing and my favourite type of fishing is squid fishing, I consider myself a pretty successful squid fisherman as i seem to catch squid almost every time i go for a fish.

Im new to this forum, and would like to create a thread on my favourite hot spots for squid fishing around the illawarra (wollongong) area, as i don't do any other type of fishing. In these spots ive caught over 300 squid per spot in the last few years fishing them.

Bulli Beach (This is my favourite spot by far) : Theres a large rock platform off the front of Bulli beach, theres a cafe on the hill and you walk down the side of the hill to reach the sand, best time that has worked for me is mid high late afternoon, cast off the highest part of the rock platform. I've only ever caught squid there with a pink jig.

Woonona Point: At woonona beach carpark if you walk down the hill a little there is a salt water pool, behind that if you walk across the rocks to the end of the rocks, casting north east on a high tide is also a great spot, green jigs seem to work a treat there.

Wollongong Harbour Outer Breakwall: T[background=rgb(251, 251, 251)]he breakwall at Wollongong Harbour is good for squid at night using Yellowtail on squid bars about 1 meter below a float.[/background]

[size=4][background=rgb(251, 251, 251)]the squid there are very large and normally in good numbers and the yellowtail are easly caught with a little berly off the wooden warf near the resturant.[/background][/size]

South Beach Wollongong: Park in the carpark at the top of the hill near the lighthouse, walk down the stairs where the old nuns pool is and small rockpool and walk to the end of the rocks on the southern side of the hill, there will be a big single round looking rock at the end of the platform, around that area ive caught hundreds on pink jigs and even caught cuttlefish on jigs there.

Shellharbour (Cowries Surf Spot): I've found this spot not as successful as others, only caught squid when there's no Swell. If you go to shellharbour village (30mins south of wollongong) and head down to shellharbour harbour which is at the end of the road of shellharbour village right by the pub, head your way around to the boat ramp, behind the boat ramp is a long flat rock platform that platform is the spot. Busy spot lots of tourism/surfers/bodyboarders around, really have to pick the right time.

All these spots are fishable Night/Day time.

Thankyou for reading my favourite spots in the wollongong area, get out there and try them, might even see you there!

Visit my brothers youtube channel for spearfishing/diving videos around the wollongong area which i find really cool and think you should check it out, www.youtube.com/wilsofilms

I,m from the Gong but moved to Perth when I was a kid.

I've been back at least 3 to 4 times a year for the last 3 years and always find time for a bit of squid fishing.

Was fishing at Wollongong harbor just under the light house last November and caught almost 25 in three trips.

Other times I,ve done well south of the pools off the break walls.

Jigs used were my favorite from Perth ,harimitsu clear natural light brown with orange tip.

Save some for me for my next trip.

Best regards to the Gong!
