Calamari is King
#1
G'day all. New to squid fish.net and reckon calamari fishing is the king when it comes to chasing a feed and having a good time.

I,m based in Perth W.A and chase calamari almost weekly from my 13 foot dinghy. Preferred locations just off Fremantle either side of both north and south mole. Also spend a bit of time in the Illawarra N.S.W and fish of the local platforms when I,m there.

Preferred jigs Harimitsu clear jigs natural range, yamashita white, and various others.

All the best.

Hey Dom,

I have tried along South Mole with varied success for squid, but only on the side facing fishing boat harbour. Where along the other side would you suggest, and how deep do you think it is there?

Cheers,

Shannon,

South Mole is alright and I suggest start from the begining near beah on a high tide and slowly walk you're way up to the tip, the best place, but most fished one.

The rocks surrounding freo fishing and the yaht clubs are a great place to try. Obviously try to cast as far as possible near weed and or broken bottom and work in your jigs with vigor cause the squid are jig educated. I,d say the depths off the rocks are in the mid to shallow range 2-3 meters on the north side, deeper at the harbour entrance ( next to sea rescue office) and around the other side along the Perth yaht club no deeper than 2 meters. I reckon the fishing harbor at night would be worth a try due to the lights.

Good luck.
