hi to all on squid fish,
long time reader/veiwer of the site so i decided to join.
Â
ive been a squid fisho since the mid/late 90's till present and i absoulutly love it, what once started as a bait gathering thing for kings n jews has turned to my main type of fishing. my m8 offen calls me out to catch jews on plastics n light gear which is fun, but for some reason id rather be out squidding, perhaps its the trying to understand them coz there habits arent like fish.
Â
i mainly fish sydney, but do recent other places in nsw atm, ive gone to japan and croatia to squid fish while over there, but havent had much luck due to time, conditions and local knowledge. hopefully when i go back to these places i'll have better luck.
Â
ive met alot of squid fishos around sydney, alot of them arent members on here, but a couple might of been. im always keen to see what size and how many they catch, what time of the year, conditions, etc.etc.
Â
alot of ppl say that sydney "isnt that good of spot for squid fishing" or "u cant beat melbounre for squid" i disagree, i found the only difference is that u have to work a little bit harder to find the ones ur after and dedication. Look at the dedicated only squid fishos in westn port n ppb to sydney n surroundings. i believe they do have a advantage on the size of the bay they have, but i believe it isnt the only bay! e.g. jervis bay or the opening to hawkesbury/pittwater would hold alot of and very good size squid on parr with vic.
Â
i also follow the japanese size records of the next of kin related to our southern calamari, and comparing what we catch to theres.
here is a list from only the tokyo to shizuoka area only. (other areas have different ones)
