valuable tips for squidding

Hi to the people out there , I'm new here and new to fishing .



I've never gone squidding so I'm hoping for some advice on technique and spots .



I bought a squid jig from my local tackle store , it's one that glows when you shine a bright light on it .



I have reasonable access to Mornington peninsula since the outlaws have a house down that way . I have heard that Mornington pier is a good spot but very crowded .



Any info / advice would be appreciated .

Squid for all on Sunday(Mothers Day) from Mornington pier, from 9 am up untill 3 in the afternoon. Orange and pink jigs seemed to work best.

All my buddies who fish the jetties on the peninsula always drop a squid jig over the side whilst they are fishing.



Most will get at least one squid.

<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> One of my favorite tecniques for catching squid is to set two squid poles or hand lines (with floats) about six feet apart then I cast and retrieve a jig out in between the two lines I have set up .this tecnique works well at night when squid lurk in the dark areas where lights fade out on peirs.

was to get your rod or squid pole a drop it straight down level with the side of the peir then swing your rod back and forth dragging the jig from side to side. in other words you mking the jigs swim along the pier in short bursts in a sideways motion left to right then right to left. I have found this tecnique useful when the squid are shy, it seems an fast moving bait sets the squid off into hunting mode



<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> An interesting point Id like to make is that after all the years I have been fishing for squid I have still had my best catches using baited jigs and have found Salted pilchards to be the best bait , not only do the squid love them but you can freeze them over and over again, I keep my jigs baited in the freezer ready for the next trip.



<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> A problem I see with some anglers using baited jigs is that they use baits that are to fat for the jigs, while tommy rough are a big favorite with squid they are to fat to use on squid jigs as the squids tenticles slip off the fatter baits and misses the jig altoghether so keep your baits slim.

As for artificial jigs I use either green or pink jigs, with pink being a favorite if the squid are right under the lights.

Green seems to give the best results for day squidding although I dont go for day squidding myself
