I am a producer based in New York City researching a science documentary series for Discovery Channel. Part of documentary focuses on squid. I am desperately trying to find out 2 things:-
1) Where is the best place to currently find squid? Maximum 4 hrs from New York City
2) Can anyone recommended any squid fisherman/fishing charters that I could contact in any of these areas?
Any tips and advice would be hugely appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

1.) There are squid probably just offshore of NYC, but I don't know if they are specifically targeted by anglers or not. Maybe calling a few charter fishing captains down there would give a better answer. Shore-based "recreational" fisheries are centered between eastern Long Island, Rhode Island, and through Cape Cod. Rumor is Cape Cod is good this year while RI has been hit or miss with finicky squid.
2.) There are some charters in Pt. Judith, RI that specifically target squid: Seven B's and Frances Fleet. You can find their info on google.
This info is for the 'recreational' sector (catch and keep just for yourself). If you are looking for commercial info from guys who measure squid by the ton, head to the bar in Pt. Judith and buy a round for the tired looking guys who smell a little funny and you'll learn more about squid than you care to.

1) The best places I have caught quite a few squid are Cape Cod Bay and the Cape Cod Canal. Newport RI is another good area.
2) I have gone out with the Frances Fleet and have been able at times to fill a five gallon pail with squid of different sizes.
I have also heard good things about Seven B's.
If you have any other questions feel free to message me.
