Hey guys
just got back from a couple of days up at the island and was so fun
fished the san remo pier which is to the left of the bridge to phillip island opposite newhaven pier for squid Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday Nights
Tuesday- was quiet got there 2 hrs before the tide got 1 small squid
wednesday- went 2 hrs before tide in ten minutes had 4 squid in the bag biggest being 1.2kg
thursday - went 1hr before high tide got 2 squid and a few garfish
best jigs was orange then a multicoloured one

Recommended squid fishing spot
Name: San Remo Jetty
Region/State: Victoria/ Westernport

Nearest Major Town: Phillip Island
Short Description: Well the jetty is very productive at night every time i've gone i fish under the first or second light pole. Calamari are around also garfish, whiting and trevally. there are also a few big rays which call the jetty home. they'll take to your jig and i dont think it'll be the same again. best fishing at night on 3.5 jigs orange or green the most succesful. biggest Calamari i've caught would have been around 2kg. bottom is sandy with little rocks. a lot of weed on the incoming tide.

well i must agree with you. i have NEVER seen anyone catch a squid off san remo pier ...though i know pat has had some luck at this spot (i.e. RX3-BOi). i have tried myself on a few occasions. i would have thought the current was too strong for them to hang around here. perhaps its only good at change of tide?
if any "real" people have caught squid at san remo or in cleeland bight recently please let us know.

I am in the same boat as you Glen, I've tried and failed off San Remo. We did catch some pretty big draughtboart sharks there though. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

have caught/witnessed 5 calamari captures from boat in Cleeland Bight. if the area fires you can catch em near the submerged pier before you head out the entrance, problem is that they are not always there.

Hey glen,
I realise this was an old post, but im new to this site and just saw it.
Not sure what you mean by real people, if you mean with photos unfortunately i dont have any, but there are definitely squid to be caught off san remo pier. Either first or second lights, middle of the night seems to be the best. My dad and I have caught some absolute monsters, unfortunately we always seem to "forget" the net and have lost some big ones.
But just to confirm there are definitely squid there.
Also, although they are caught during slack tide, we have caught them here when the current is reall strong. Only way to fish is on a patternoster style rig to get it down, then just jig it next to the pier and hope for the best.

by "real" people i meant someone other than from a tackle shop. from my experience, tackle shop fishing reports are sometimes a bit hard to believe...
thanks for the info about squidding at san remo. I will give it a crack next time I am down there.

Oh, haha, your not wrong mate!
Seems the fish/squid are always where you dont look, and seem to always take the expensive lures only <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='  ' />.

i have got squid from san remo many times, i have a holiday house on the island, there is also a spot to fish from shore under a float. i used baited jig and also did some egging at san remo, great place at right time.
there was lots on ink staines there last week

when I was down at phillip Island last year I noticed it had some very squiddy looking places...bummer I didn't take any gear...maybe that was good for you blokes hahahahahaha
I cant walk past a puddle without having a look to see whats swimming around in it.

Hi everyone,
I stopped at San Remo pier on Wednesday (Australia Day) and there was a couple of guys jigging at the start of the pier (on the ocean side). They had a nice big squid chase their jig but it was not very keen. Would have been a nice catch though. There was plenty of ink stains on the pier.
