You can use barbless fly-tying hooks to make the hooks. These come in any size you want. I would guess a size 14 long shank hook would be OK. You can tie them onto a steel rod (stainless maybe?) and then epoxy them in place for extra strength.

OR you can buy the hooks! There are companies overseas such as nakazima that actually sell jig parts! However these are not available in Australia as far as i know. I have seen some large spare squid hooks on sale in a shop in melbourne (i forget which one now) but they were way too big for what you want.

Here is a picture of a jig i made a while back. It was made out of balsa wood and barbless hooks. But it was just a first attempt and the damn thing floated! oh well I know I need more weight next time.

Also, see in the photo gallery there is a photo of a tiny size 1 nakazima jig. I still have this one but i have not caught anything on it. It is wooden (not cloth covered) and it does not sink on its own. You need to use a sinker. Also it has a string to attach to the line rather than a metal swivel. I find this a bit fiddly.

I read somewhere that it is very difficult to manufacture cloth covered size 1 jigs so most manufacturers don't bother.

Best of luck, glen
