you will most probably only catch southern calamary (see photo gallery). there are some arrow squid sometimes taken from boats (but rarely from shore). calamary are better than arrow squid for eating.

as bait, i dont think one is better than the other.

cheers, glen

Ive got a tip Bazza - use the heads as bait, eat the rest - especially with southern calamari's..........

Difference - the southern calamari's wings go all the way down the body, where as the arrow squid only has small wings at the base...........

Starting at the top - southern calamary, cuttlefish, arrow squid (thanks to aok47 for the pic) You can see the wings i talk about if you look closely.......
SA - the land of the bigger fish. The fish on the east, measure the least, but if you head west, you'll be bringing in the best!!

AoK, youre just showing off! Up here in Sydney arrows are like a quarter the size of calamari squid <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> Any chance of a closeup of a large arrow squid sometime in the future?
OWNED.

hehehehe i have some good shots of arrow squid that i caught offshore from Philip Island (late April) on the film in my camera, i have another 10or so shots to go so i'll post'em up when i have them <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Whatever arrow squid i have caught they have usually been bigger than the calamari. EXCEPT when the spawning calamri come into the bay,.. then its the opposite. Big Grin
