Customer Alex reports good numbers of squid while fishing from the Rye Pier. He was also excited to see an angler next to him land a 4kg snapper.

For those with a boat.... the banks off Rye (look for the red channel marker) are reported to be fishing well with calamari around 500g. Also off Sorrento 3-500m short of the shipping channel just look for the weed beds in 4m.

Went sorrento last night till this morning 5am, my mate caught 4 squid and I caught 3 tommy ruff and 1 travelly. The squid are definitely there as you can see them around the school of tommy ruffs, but a but reluctant to take the jig, they seem to come up then quickly back off.

It's been a year and 1 day since the last post. I'll be heading out to Sorrento this arvo. Will let you guys/gals know how it goes. Will be my first time there, so I don't know where to cast or even know where to park the car. Any advice or tips will be appreciated. I will be land-based as well.

I was thinking of where I marked the map with the red spray paint. Thoughts?

Just a quick update. There was a spot on the pier where everyone was dropping their squid jigs. As you walk along the pier, on the right (opposite of a locked shelter thing) is good! Just cast or drop the jig in to the water towards where the queenscliffe-sorrento boat ports

The action wasn't that great. Only landed one. Current was dreadful. Winds were bad.

Yamashita OH Q 3.0

Going to get the Naory Range Hunter 1.8B in AJCF

Such a nice day and looks calm outside. Winds have calmed down. Have uni assignments to do and have exams coming up <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

But I'm going to head out now to get another rod, net, esky! Going to catch those small little fish you find at the beach and use them as live bait! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Bugger.. Went there and got myself the Shimano Sahara 6'6" and the Naory Range Hunter 1.8B in MICF. BCF in Fountain Gate, VIC, didn't stock AJCF. But I'm happy. Going to try and do my assignments tonight but if my sauna, room, is still 50*C, I'm going fishing! Lol

go get yourself some fast sinking jigs for sorrento, slow sinking for brighton and so on.

You also need to get yourself some egi clips and not use that snap swivel.

What are you planning on using the live bait for?

I really cannot find a place that would sell the clips, or I'm just not looking hard enough.

The 1.8B has a sink rate of ~3 - ~3.5 sec per meter. Same speed as the 3.5 yamashita sized jigs.

The yo zuris that I have, they're slow as a snail when it comes to sinking lol

The live bait - I just haven't experienced using live bait before and I read around and discovered that they can product wonders!

I'm going to try using soft plastics once I get back from Fiji, late Feb

If they sell stuff cheap over in Fiji, I'm going to stock up.. Like a crazy mofo that just ran out of crack!

There's a lot of water activities that our cruise ship will offer, so I can send my missus off somewhere and I can fish lol

We tried fishing on the main island but shore access was pretty difficult. Though we did hook a few trevally off an abandoned private pier.
