Chemical Lights

Does anyone know a good source on the internet or Melbourne area to pick up chemical lights?



Also I have been told that activated lights can be used several days later if they are stored in the freezer after use. Has anyone any experience with this?

there were heaps of guys at flinders on sunday using the chemical lights on their floats after dark. the water was all lit up!



am interested to follow this topic too since i want to buy some.

I have got some big ones. They are about 3-4 inches long, maybe bigger. I get them from a mate for bugger all. I have about 60 of them at the moment and cant remember how much he charged me - they are really the kids bracelets that you get at like circuses or something like that - we use them for seeing our rod tips.



Have heard of that freezer thing, but am yet to test it..........Will try it out and see what happens!!

I guess you guys are after sources other than regular tackle shops? Almost every tackle shop I go to sells chemical lights, and the smaller ones are cheap, some are $1.60-$2 for a pack of 2 small ones, with price increasing with size. However I've found that the smallest size is only good for floats if they're not too far away, more than 15 or so metres away and they're hard to spot.

JM Turvilles on Franklin St in the city has a good selection.

somewhere on the internet there should be a site that would tell us what chemical reaction takes place when you snap them and they start to glow. Knowing what type of reaction it is you can have a guess as to whether or not freezing them after use will halt the reaction....

CHEMICAL LIGHTS



Chemical lights work by a reaction between two non-toxic chemicals, one of the chemicals is contained within a glass phile(tube), This is placed within the plastic tube ,



The second chemical is added into the larger plastic, when the glass tube is broken by a SnAp or BeNDiNg action, the 2 non-toxic chemicals aremixed forming a reaction between them, which produces light



They have 2-4 years shelf life if kept in origional packet if removed from the packet and not used for a day or so it will damge them because they are packed in a airtight packet





You will only slow them down but not stopping them if you place them in a freezer !

by them from "the warehouse" or "go-lo" they are cheap as!! last ages!

You can buy packets of about ten or so for around $2-$3 bucks any size
