Fast Sinking Jig Required
#1
My favoured method of catching squid is to drift over weed banks in a dingy. I have the greatest success positioning the jig as close to the weed as possible. I favour prawn style Yo-Zuri 2-3 in orange specially if the water vis is a little murky. Yo-Zuri's sink slowly and tend to be only slightly negatively bouyant regardless of size. On some days the drift rate is too high and drags the jig back near the surface. I therefore need a jig that is heavier and sinks more readily. Adding lead Lead weight effects the action of the jig. Can anyone recommend such a jig.

Hi Unregistered, try slipping barrel sinkers free running on the line, keep adding them till your happy with the weight, they come in all sizes so one or two of the bigger ones should do, they are stream lined so wont effect the swimming action,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Pete.

yo zuri jigs do seem to take forever to sink... I've put a small pea sized sinker on the the line I thought it would affect the way it look in the water but is still seems to work.

another option is to use a paternoster rig. with the jig on a short dropper, about a metre above the sinker.

Many people prefer slow sinking jigs. i know yo-zuri makes sinker attachments to increase jig weights, but they are very hard to get and are expensive. You can also strap some metal/lead wires on the jig body to increase weight and this shouldnt affect the buoyancy. Or you can just shop for the fast sinking yo-zuri jigs next time. Shrimp hunter typically sinks at the rate of 4 m/s, but yo-zuri Aora jigs are 30% heavier and they sink at about 2.5 m/s. Flash dancer is another heavier model <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
