West Coast Squid Charters
#1
Taking a road trip in April and will be on the west coast from Cali to Wash. We heard about the squid fishing and want to give it a try. Anyone know if there are any squid fishing charters out there. Anywhere on the coast would work. Any ideas?

April is not the best month for squidding, in Washington, nor have I heard of any charters up here <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> .

However, if you could get to San Diego now, they are catching giant squid on charters <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> .

If I hear of anything new, I'll post it!

there are squid in "them thar waters". Captain Rick Powers was back out on the briny blue chasing squid on Thursday 2-3. It's not very often that these large Humboldt squid show along our part of the coast but every other year or so we do see some huge schools out in the deep. Rick had a big group today with lots of readers of USAFishing and lots of those die hard born in fowl weather gear anglers from Coastside on board. They had just a incredible day and a day that all will likely remember for their lifetimes. Rick said they stopped on the Banks in 400 feet of water at 9:30 this morning. He had everyone rigged up with squid jigs running from 6 to 20 inches in size. On their first drop they bit like wild dogs and immediately the entire school of squid was under the boat. In about 2 1/2 hours time they landed 650 squid averaging 25 pounds and going up to 50 for their 45 anglers on board. Rick estimates that they landed between 12500 to 15000 pounds of squid or enough to feed the neighborhood and still have plenty of heads for crabs bait for the next two years. The weather was fantastic with 5 knots of west wind over a 4 to 5 foot by 14 second swell. Rick's next scheduled squid trips are next Tuesday and Friday.
